Started yesterday doing the install with my buddy. I was 11-7 that night then came home to get the car and stuff and then started at about 8am. Obviously I was tired as heck but due to schedule friction we had to do it then.
Door panel off
Delco Bose gone
New HU JVC KD-AVX2
Infinity Reference 6022i with Adapter plate
The door was def. a pain in the a$$. You have to cut the actual door to get the 6.5 to fit. In my perfect world I wanted the oem grill to fit over the new speakers. After getting the speaker in, the grill wasn't even close to fitting over top of it due to the tweeter and the way the grill slants in. We are planning on modifying the grill cover and the tweeter to get it to fit, might have to build out the grill slightly.
I will post more pics as we go. I don't know when the next phase will be due again to schedules and weather.

Worked on it this morning. Finally got the grill to fit onto door, major modding took place on the grill. Dremeled the heck out of the tweeter and pretty much removed all the support on the back of the grill. Used some apoxy on the edges for support on the grill. Just enough to let it flex but have some support.
Got the rear in on the pass. side so that side is complete. Sounds good, I'm happy..just have to do the other side now which is going to be tomorrow if the weather is good. Now that we know what to do it should go quicker. We did end up using 1/2" and 1/4" spacers on the door on the top 2 and 1/4" spacers for the bottom since the door is tapered.
The rear is pretty easy, removed the original bose junk then drilled 4 small holes for the 6x9 to mount too.
Sounds very good, I'm very pleased although I was scared at many times. I was at a car show and some people couldn't believe that it sound so loud with no amp.
If you drill 4 small holes in the plate a 6x9 will fit right in.
Rear Infinity 6x9 (grill fits right over it)
That looks identical to my rears! I ran them with the stock system for a couple of weeks before the other stuff went in. Now I have them tuned as subs. They give you a pretty good punch in the back, eh
Looks good. Those are the same speakers I run. If you like the sound with just the HU powering them you should hear them through an amp! I use an MTX 6304 and then an Infinity Baselink powered sub.....WOW. I used the Infinity grill covers for the fronts and backs, If you use the stock covers in front they are covering 30% of the speaker. Your carpet is dark, mine has the light grey so the infinity grilles looked okay as they were light grey also. I struggle with posting pic's but will get some so you can see what it looks like. Maybe you will like it??
Anyway, yours looks good, and I agree the doors were a PITA
Well for future reference, you could actually mount the speaker behind the mounting plate. IE, so the mounting ring is behind the mounting plate. Should be plenty of depth behind the speaker to pull it off.
Those speakers are what I've been looking to purchase as well! I'm just trying to find the best combo for a conv. setup and tricks to installing for the doors and rear.
I have and '89 vert and have removed the stock blose radio however wanted to see what the originals sound like with my new HU. I've connected the wiring for the speakers but am not sure on the antenna and amp wires for the stock speakers! My antenna does not go up however I should still hear sound from the speakers from the tuner. Instead, all I hear is a loud pop and some hiss and no sound. That pop comes from the left door. I'm not sure which wire to connect; the blue wire from the HU to the single red wire (amp power?) or the blue wire on the GM adapter plug in (from Crutchfield) . When I connect to just the blue wire on the adapter I hear a click noise from the "module" that's under the carpet (in the back) to which someone previously owned and wired the pos and neg wires into from the electric antenna motor. When I connect the wire from the HU to just the amp red wire, that's when I hear the pop and nothing.... There is also another single wire that I'm not sure what to do with that plugged into the stock radio. I see it in the picture above. The wire from the empty hole to the right.
So, you think I should go ahead and get the speakers and forget about the original ones? I did intend to replace the speakers but wanted to wait a little while longer so figure out if I wanted\needed an amp for them as well....
How are you guys mounting a 6x9" in this speaker ring as the mounting holes don't line up?
Easy. Just use some large washers in the stock holes. The washers will hold the speaker in place. I used steel and nylon washers to protect the speakers.
