You need to have a Bose equipped car to make this retrofit work, as the harness is there, with the speed sensor input taped back on the harness. There are a total of 5 connectors:

1) GPS Antenna (small sq. gray)
2) Air antenna (conventional metallic plug deal)
3) Car Harness 1 (gray)
4) Car harness 2 (black)
5) Car Harness 3 (white - lead taped back on harness)

Did mine tonight. More posts soon with pics. I was able to mount the GPS antenna in the factory location using Cernio 2000's zip tie method on one post.

To get an antenna, have your dealer do a locate for the P/N listed above. As of about 2 weeks ago, there were 6 in the entire US (regular stocked P/N on backorder with indefinite wait).

After I got it all plugged in the radio worked for a while (sounded like an FM station not tuned to the exact freq. and the door opens and closed - with car in accessory mode).

Once the car was started the entire unit went into lock down - expecting to do Tech 2 work later this week.

I thought it was a bit weird that the display never came on, even in accessory mode with that radio station playing and face flip drive working.

Is this normal until the Tech 2 work is done? Seems like I have seen pics in the past with the screen saying "Unit is Locked"??

Guy I bought it from was reputable Vette guy, (he shipped it in a factory box/packing) so there's only a low probability that it (the display only) is jacked up.

Is this true or are they giving me a line?

Thanks.

Pics from the install including GPS antenna and factory location using zip tie on hole closest to driver...

Note: One must buy the small push pins shown in the pic above separately, they do not come in the bag with the GM/Denso GPS ant. 15821094

Close up of zip tie...looking up and towards general direction of LF of car...

Now all that remains is the Tech 2 work...see note of concern above about no indication of screen yet...thoughts as this is an '07/'08 unit, and perhaps different on boot up than '06 and prior, at least until the Tech 2 VIN# relearn is done on it...

Very strange, but I went out to the garage just before bedtime and tried the nav by putting the car in accessory mode again and now I am getting the expected C6 logo screen with the message "TheftLock is Activated"...I'm happy that the display is working but sure am confused why it didn't do this right away. Maybe it needed a few ignition cycles? Who knows.

Also, the time is spot on 11:44 pm, so the GPS sat antenna and timing internals must be working too.

Good info here as I will be pulling my 06 nav unit out and selling it at the end of the month. Gives me a good idea what to look for. Thanks.

Additional details on pulling console itself can be found in link below and elsewhere in the Forum as alluded previously...

After Tech 2 work:

Success - yes and no...

Well, the navigation and XM work fine (I assume the CD does as well - still need to try that).

Problem is, the steering wheel controls do not function. The unit as sold is not an '07/'08 as advertised. The GM Tech 2 reveals that it is actually a 2005 build nav unit (12/22/05), and GM P/N is 15820017.

I need to check it for MP3 compatability.

The technician tried all settings and there was no toggle to turn steering wheel controls on nor off.

The box shown on the eBay ad shows the correct 2007/08 P/N but the unit itself has a different # on it (ref. pics above).

GPS antenna works great.

Worst case, I sell this one and get a real 2007/08.

Should be plug and play with Onstar and Bose. The head unit alone locks up as shown in pic above until re-programmed with Tech 2.

Do you already have the unit? May be selling this one if I can't get the original seller to fess up it is not a 2007 as originally advertised.

I'm already looking for a 2007 up so I can get my steering wheel controls operational again....

Default c6 navigation

How much do you want for your nav unit?My car has onstar and I looked in the dash above the center vents and did not see an antenna, could it be someplace else?

Bottom line BEWARE:

DOES NOT EQUAL:

...so I'm looking for a 2007/08/09 to get the steering wheel controls back on my new '08 Z06 and selling the '06 P/N'd one.

See related post:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...post1567189735

The unit I have works fine, just doesn't have the steering wheel controls. It comes with v.3.0 disc.

This is a great thread for non NAV c6 owners to get info on the upgrade.

After reading these 2 pages I feel like I have gone through the swap with you guys.

Look forward to doing this in a few weeks.

Thanks,
Shane

Thanks for the kind words Shane.

BTW, got the Tech 2 work done this morning for this second unit. Works like a champ, steering wheel controls included this time.

Thanks for all the updates. Glad it finally worked out. I still think there is a good chance I'll add one to my car some day.

Jim:

I think the key right now, at least for the immediate future (i.e. while they are national backorder), is securing a GPS antenna with the head unit purchase.

At any rate, I did a thorough check on my nav system today, just to be sure all is working with all other car systems as applicable and everything checked out (e.g. turn by turn in HUD [HUD integration], voice recognition [mic integration], memory, etc.).

I've also got a nav. manual and instructiional CD for the unit now. The CD is actually pretty helpful when you take the time to listen to it (like 50 minutes or so). Never even listened to it with my '06 with factory nav.

Sooo, I'm good to go now.
