In-dash models to avoid?

I keep dragging my feet for one reason or another. Mostly lack of "play" funds.
Seeing Mike Mercury's latest post on the in-dash DVD unit (1.5 din) really got my interest up again.
See his thread here -

I would also like the unit to have GPS as well.
General Questions -
1) Is there an in-dash unit to AVOID?
- I thought I saw someone post recently about a Kenwood or similar in-dash DVD with GPS unit to avoid. They provided a link to a review site. I can't seem to find it now.
-
2) I remember seeing some in-dash units installed where only a little trimming of the lower divider bar on the bezel needed to be done.
- Does anyone know if that slight trimming modification is for one particular unit or for most any double din?
- I really did not want to spend $400 on a custom bezel.
- I don't think I have the skills to do a custom bezel myself, but I've not tried...
The inexpensive units seem pretty neat, especially for the price.
No telling when I will actually get around to this.
The Vette is currently in the body shop for repairs after a fender "crushing".

There will be additional paint work performed.

More on that later.

Kenwood has always shined in the auto electronics arena. Sadly though, they didn't make a model that met my personal wants/goals for my C5.

I wasn't calling-out Kenwood in particular.
I just did not remember the name of the one that I saw someone post here that we should consider avoiding. It was what I consider a leading brand though.
We'll see what develops.
Thanks again.

Nav updates are not guaranteed to be correct or even been updated. I have been on a 5+ year old HWY that still didnt show on my Garmin. My road I live on used to go through to the main road over 10 years ago but my Garmin and other units I have seen still show it as a connecting road when it is really a dead end.
