I had a very reputable stereo shop tell me that the factory radio would have to be disassembled and a plug-in circuit board removed so the car woul run correctly if I install an aftermarket radio????????
Any truth to that? Also are there any install kits that provide a pocket under the radio instead of just a blank plate and who has them???
Can anyone give me detailed info on the sys flash fix?

First, welcome to the forum!
Well, the installer was partially correct. If you simply remove the radio, the SYS light flashes on your display. It doesn't do anything more, but it can be annoying. Somewhere on the forum there is a fix to that involving a resistor. I need to look that up myself again because I'm about to start the install on my '92.
I think Metra sells a kit that has a pocket under the radio for single DIN setups. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=186002 That was for a C5, but they may have something for a C4. Good luck!
