Has anyone done any stealthy amp installs in a C6? I'm exploring a system in my non-Bose 2LT 08 coupe, and the amp is proving to be a bit tricky. There's not a lot of room to mount an amp and have it be invisible without taking up floor space. I've found a few that look from their specs like they'll fit in the passenger rear cubby, but my concern there is running lots of wiring, and the possibility of picking up noise from it (thinking 4ch amp, powering fronts with rears bridged for sub). I suppose that another option is to run a small amp where the factory amp is to take care of front speakers (and possibly rears, if I keep them), and another small amp in a rear cubby to power a sub. I'm still debating if I want to do a Boxology type sub box, or go with some of the low cost sub-in-the-cubby solutions I've seen here.
Anyway, it looks like under the seats is a no-go, as there's too much junk hanging down. There's pretty much no room behind the seats for an amp, either (I don't really want to lose travel). I'm trying to avoid an amp rack behind the seats on the rear shelf, though that's a great location.
I'm just shopping/planning right now, so I haven't decided on a path yet. I'm 90% on pulling the trigger on a Kenwood 5120 head unit. I may just install that and use with the factory gear for now, until I sort out what I want to do as far as upgrades go. The car will most likely be stored all winter, with an occasional run if/when the roads are clear, so this would probably be a winter project as time and money allow. I also want to take time and listen to various speakers before just replacing them. I'm not looking for a killer system; a decent upgrade with tight sound and a little punch will do just fine. Stealthy is key.
So how about it: any stealthy amp installs, preferably in coupes? Any recommendations on small amps? I've found some from Sony, Alpine, and Arc, as well as a few others. Seems like you pay more for a small footprint, though.
I was looking at the pdx 4.100, since it's a tad smaller than the 4.125 (and a bit cheaper). When you say a little work, what's involved in getting it to fit? Should I be concerned about overheating at normal listening levels if it's in a rear cubby?
Any links to that fender install? Curious about that one.
the fender install was so long ago it may be lost i can poke around, i dont remeber what was dont for whoeever had the 4.100 in the cubby i think they had to tune it all how they wanted then wiggle it in the cubby or something and to mount it they drilled through the side of the cubby and nut and bolted it from underneath
4.100 should be plenty adequate for most ppls needs, i believe its same size as 4.150 though
