that is correct i always went at the OBDII connector, the instructions for gmrap used to be very detailed on how to find the data wire but arent anymore
there will be 2 orange wires one in pin10 which is at the end of the connector that isnt it
pin 16 will be orange next to a light blue and a dark green wire
pin 16 is serial data if for some reason it doesnt work try pin 15 dark green which is entertainment and comfort data busses
also i have never used VSS wire that is in that cluster behind radio some say its more of a tach signal then a vss signal etc i have always gone to instrument cluster, as these is conflicting data as to which wire it is at radio as in the vehicle diagrams no where do they show a VSS wire at radio so it may be done somehow through serial data bus.
ur radio will work fine without vss hookedup as well, kenwoods dont even have one

Ok..for the record...I believe I have found two sources to independantly confirm the place of the Databus wite
Ignore the label of the VSS wire..its not the right one its here:

Reverse Light dk. blue - BCM, pink 32 pin plug, pin C1
Notes: The BCM is in the passenger side footwell, under the carpet.
Speed Sense dk. green/white cluster or PCM, red plug, pin 50
Notes: The PCM is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment. Remove the right front tire and remove the access panel in the inner fender to access the PCM.
