WOW is the word of the day! I traded my '06 coupe for an '08 Z. I had a Pioneer 7800 head unit along with jl audio amps and their stealth box as well. I had everything installed in the Z and my audio dealer encouraged me to go with Focals [165 vr's] and I am stunned at just how clean these speakers are. They are equally amazing with cd's, ipod, or dvd's although the equalizer on the 7800 certainly helps. They seem to get better by the day. If anyone is considering speakers, I can't encourage you enough to give these a shot. I've always had jl speakers but these take the cake so to speak. They are not cheap but I wanted real quality and I definitely got it.
i can vouch for focal speakers as well, they are truely amazing. Excellent soundstaging, you cant tell where the speakers are in the car it seemlessly fills the cabin with sound
I had the focal utopia 6.5 component set, yes very expensive, and yes worth every penny. Alot of the people like the one model down from the utopia though, the K2 power, the tweeter isnt as harsh and takes less modifying of crossovers to get great sound
Focal does make an excellent component speaker. They can be bright, even with a proper install, depending on the amp driving them.
The McIntosh was a little bright for me on the Utopia 6.5's.
I stepped down to the Alpine PDX-4.150 and while it fixed the brightness issue, the midrange is not as clean. But, it is a good amp for the $
