I've used them many times in other cars. No problems at all. The two main lines I've used in the 3.5" size are the Boston S35's and the JL Audio TR350-CXi. Between those two, I've always liked the JL better.

I have JL C5-650's up front, JL XR-525's rears, JL 10"Stealthbox sub in the back powered by JL 450/4v2 and JL 300/2v2 amps. Quality, reputation and stellar reproduction of sound were factors I used in choosing components. Not once was I concerned about the outside apperance of the items.

I really couldn't care less how they look. Especially since they will be behind the factory grille anyway. Specifically comparing the Boston and JL, the JL does sound cleaner and more linear. The Boston seems to bump up the midrange a little and ends up just sounding muddy on many songs.

I've never heard the Polk 3.5 inch speakers. I have heard the 6.5 inch db series and they were a little too bright for me. Don't know if that carries into their 3.5" or not.
