Hey all, I am looking for options for a custom C2 stereo. Here is what I want to do: 1) replace the old radio with a stock-looking replacement, NO DASH CUTTING. 2) Add a hard drive-based MP3 player through a set of RCA jacks in the rear of the stereo. Does such technology exist? If not, how hard would it be to build a custom stereo? I know the hard drive based MP3 unit is already out there, I am just have trouble locating a stereo that will let me plug the RCA audio outs to a set of auxiliary in's on the stereo. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I can build a digital radio from your stock radio that has a hidden digital display, 4 speaker output, and RCA style pre-outs, but it doesnt have auxillary inputs. It does come with a tape deck that can mount in the glovebox or under the dash, Does the MP3 player you are looking at have a headphone jack on it?? If it does you could run it through a tapedeck adapter. I may be able to adapt something special so that this MP3 player would work with one of our radios. If you contact me we can dicuss exactly what you need.
Hey, thanks for the reply. I want to stay with the RCA-style jacks because the headphone option degrades the sound too much. MP3's already lack some sound quality of CDs, and this would take it too far, IMHO. Just for my own reference, what is meant by RCA-preouts? The final question is, what kind of work would be necessary to build an auxilliary line in, or is it impossible? TIA,
RCA style Preouts are RCA style jacks that allow you to hook up external equiptment like amplifiers and such. It is a low-level output.
Without knowing the specs on the MP3 player you are looking at, I cant say for sure how hard it would be to create a line in. It shouldnt be too hard, the easiest way would be to eliminate the tape deck and replace it with the line ins for your MP3 player. If you let me know which MP3 player you are looking at, I can find the specs for it and let you know for sure what it would entail.
