Default Grounding Questions

I've recently installed an amp in my c6. I mounted a pdx5 on the slope behind the passenger seat. It's grounded on one of the seat bolts. To get the ground, i had to take the paint off of the bolt and nut. The problem is that i have a whirring sound when the engine revs. Is this caused by a poor ground? Is there a better place to ground on a c6 that is close to the location that I chose for the amp? This noise is driving me a little nuts, it sounds exactly like a dentist drill. No offense to any dentists, but i cannot stand that noise.

Default Ground problem

Funny you should ask. I had the same problem when I mounted a pdx 4.150 behind the passenger seat. It is an extremely difficult problem in the corvette. The only way that I found to pretty much get rid of it is to run a ground wire from the back of the radio to the bolt that has the amp grounded to it. It almost complete eliminates it and I tried ground the amp a few places. So that is my suggestion to you. I hope it helps.

That would work. Also, how high is your gain set? Turn it all the way down and see if it disappears, if that works turn your stereo up to about 80% and see of that listening level is acceptable as a max, if not, turn the gain up until you hear the alt. whine, and then back it off a bit until it's gone again.

Hope that helps, and it's a lot easier than running a wire all the way from your deck....
