Default My proposed setup

Hey guys, first time poster in this area. I'm looking to upgrade the audio in my 2008 vette (currently has the basic standard audio). I wanted to post my proposed config and get your feedback:

5.25s: Alpine SPS-500
3.5s: JL Audio TR350-CXi
6.5s: JL Audio C2-600X
Amp: Alpine MRP-F300
Headunit: Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD

I am uncertain about the center channel. My prelim research has not uncovered much there. I can get everything above online for $1080. I would like to stay in that range. Currently I am not thinking of adding a sub.

Why do recommend ditching the center? What would be good components for the 6.5s in the door?

As far as I know, removing the center speaker imrproves imaging.
And if you're into JL audio, XR650-CSi are decent speakers for the 6.5 components, IMO.

drop the rear 5.25s too. Not needed. Get a good 4 channel amplifier and place the front 6.5 compnents on the front channel and bridge the rear channel to the sub.

If I were to run a 100W RMS front components(200W total), and a 500W RMS sub in the rear,
what would be a good 4 channel amp for that?

look on ebay at zapco reference amps. They make a 1000.4 that matches what you need. I may be a little more but it will last.

I don't want to add subs. Don't want them to take up space. I think if you are not using subs shouldn't you continue to use all 6 speakers (5.25s in the rear, 6.5s in the door, 3.5s up front)? Does JL or Alpine make a good center? And will you lose much using a 4 channel amp for 6 speakers? how would that work? I would guess that you wouldn't amp the 3.5s?

I don't own a C6, just a lowly C4, but if you are smart, you will listen to Penta. He has done more installs, and heard more different setups then just about one on the forum.
Besides, it does not make much sense to ask for an experts opinion, and then ignore it.

OK. I will skip the center and get a good set of JL components for the door 6.5s. What would you recommend there?

Take a look at the Zuki Eleets. I have one, and I love it. And don't believe the rated power, it is much higher.

If you don't want to do subs, then IMO you should run 8's in your doors to give you a little more low end playback capability. A 6.5" cone trying to play 45-50hz in basically infinite baffle does not work out well, basically ever. Plan on doing some sound deadening to your doors as well (you always should IMO, but especially sub-less and asking for full range playback)

DLS, Dynaudio, possibly JL (?) would be pre-packaged component set options. If you wanted to mix and match, and use a 4 channel amp and run the system active (crossover duties handled by the amp) there are TONS of options, Seas, Scan Speak etc for upper end, Dayton drivers for lower end, cost effective options.

I would like to stay in the neighborhood of $1000-1200 for parts. I am looking to get 2x5.25 for the rear, 2x3.5 up front, and either 2x 6.5s or 8s in the doors, plus amp, plus a large screen head unit that will take up the entire area the factory unit does and has excellent iPod integration (so far was thinking Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD)

As far as what I am trying to achieve, I don't want to be bumping down the street shaking and vibrating everything. I listen to rock mainly and occasionally rap.

Here's what I was thinking based on what you guys have said so far:
5.25 JL Audio VR525-CSi 179
3.5 JL Audio TR350-CXi 55
6.5 JL Audio VR650-CSi 159
AMP Rockford Fosgate Punch P400-4 264
HeadUnit Pioneer AVH-P3100DVD 400

Total $1057

first off i might consider the kenwood ddx512 instead of the pioneer IMO its a more versatile unit and has a nicer interface

Since it seems u are against adding a sub you have 2 ways to handle this
5 channel amp
PDX5 maybe super small easily tucked into a cubby
Run some 8s in both doors
A quality 3.5" coaxial in each door
5.25 components in the rear
A WHOLE LOTTA SOUND DEADENING
this should get you some solid bass IMO

or
4 channel amp
PDX4 maybe
some nice 6.5 components up front
5.25 coaxials in back
prly would have a bit better soundquality but less bass

i just put 6.5 kicker components in the doors, 5.25 kickers in the back a c6 sub box from sub thump and a shallow rockford phosgate 10 inch shallow sub, all run by a kicker 5 channel amp and pioneer avic 900. and i know people are going to trash the kickers but this system sounds awesome. i got the brand new pioneer 900 with the 2.0 firmware for 520.00 shipped the brand new 5 channel kicker amp for 269.00 the c6 custom box carpeted for 129.00, components for 200 the 5.25's for 90 the rockford 10 inch shallow sub for 100. it sounds awesome

The PDX4/5 seem a lot pricier than the Rockford Fosgate Punch P400-4. Are they that much better?

Would the speakers I suggested work ok?
5.25 JL Audio VR525-CSi
3.5 JL Audio TR350-CXi
6.5 JL Audio VR650-CSi

I will check out the Kenwood head unit, but I like the front USB on the pioneer.

I used JL C5-650 components in my doors. They're more expensive than the VR's but will give you more midrange(since you dont want a sub) and better(silk) tweeters. For the rears I use JL XR-525's.If I were you I would check out JL's Stealthbox sub. It doesnt take up alot of room and really completes the overall sound.
