Ok, So I was set on getting the Alpine PDX-5 based on recommendations here and other places on the web, but this weekend a particular audio installer recommended getting a JL 300/4 and 250/1 for my setup.
The speakers that I was planning on installing are the JL c5 650 component and coax. (front and rear), along with a stealth box 10W3v3.This installer recommended the JL amp over the alpine because he said that although the pdx could handle this speaker setup, it would pushing
it to its extremes. Price difference wasn't really going to be that much.
of course he would recomend 2 jl amps....they are almost double the price of the pdx. I wouldnt say it is at the limit of the pdx, it is meant to be pushed those power levels
IMO PDX takes the win if you ask me it does 75rmsx4 the speakers are 75rms no need for any more power. I just did a pdx5 in a c6 its plenty of power for components/coaxials/and a sub
I just ordered a pdx5 amp today. I bought it because i have heard great things about the new class D alpine amps, and i thought it would be a lot easier to hide 1 amp over 2, and with my kicker sub i found low wattage mono amps hard to find and expensive.
i guess i dont understand the OP....he suggested 2 jl amps totaling 550watts versus 600 watts from the pdx5?
I have JL C5-650 components in the doors, JL XR-525 rear fill and 10w3 Stealthbox. Powering the fronts and rear fill is a JL 450/4v2 and a 300/2v2 for the sub. It really sounds good! For me JL all the way.
