Default Newbe Long post - Help and Questions

I have a 2009 C6 coupe with Nav, onstar, bluetooth, and XM. I would like to replace the Bose amp and speakers but keep the NAV HU. I would like to have everything else work as it does today.

I listen to mostly classic rock, southern rock, and some hard rock. I do not play my music loud, but I am looking for a nice clean sound with good highs and bass.

I have read 100's of posts here and have an idea how to do it, but still have some questions.

I would like to keep the cost under $1500 for parts. I am looking for as stealth an install as I can get.

My plan is to remove the Bose amp and speakers and attach RCA plugs to the wiring harness at the C2 plug at the amp. I found a place to get male connectors that I can wire with RCA's and just plug into the stock connector. I will be taking just the 4 low level outputs from the HU. Everything else on the connector will be left empty.

I was also thinking of taking the antenna enable signal as an turn on voltage for the amp. Is this a +12v signal or just a CAN signal? Should I get +12v accessory someplace else?

I am not going to use any cleansweep or PACOEM stuff.

Here is my thought on equipment.

1. Alpine PDX5 amp
2. DLS MS6A 6.5" 2-way Components or Focal 165KF 6.5" components in the door
3. DLS 425 5.25" 2 way speakers or something similiar for the rear.
4. A Boxology Stealthbox with a JL 10W3 V2 D4 10" DVC Subwoofer in the driver side cubby.
5. Disconnect the center speaker.

Any suggestions on better speakers in the same price range would be appreciated.

Some basic questions.

Will the balance and fade on the HU still work? I think I know that the equalizer on the HU will no longer do anything. Is this correct or will the HU still attenuate the signal?

Will the bluetooth button on the steering wheel still work? Will the handsfree still work? Will the speakers automaticlly mute like it does now?

Should I pick speakers based on the RMS or peak wattage. For example, if a speaker has a rms of 90 and a peak of 120 would an amp that puts out 75w be enough? Should I try to match the rms as close to the amp as possible? Since the PDX5 puts out 75w @ 4ohm should I get speakers that only need say 60w.

The JL 10W3v2 sub has a rating of 300w watts. Is the PDX5 enough for this? Should I go with a Sub that needs less power like the 10W1v2 which only needs 150 watts?

Is there a better Sub I should be looking at?

The Boxology Stealthbox has .61 cubic ft of space. The Sub says it needs .60 - .90 cu ft. Is this box big enough?

Boxology also says that if you add polyfill, it increases the cu. ft. to .79 cu ft. I don't really understand this. Should I add polyfill?

I would like to put the amp either in the rear passenger cubby or behind the seats. Would 4ga wire be enough for the +12v power based on the length of the run or do I need to go heavier?

What gauge wire should I run to the speakers in the doors. I was thinking 14ga. Is this enough?

I was thinking 12ga for the sub. Is this enough?

Any ideas on tuning. What should the crossovers in the doors be set at? What should the amp be set at?

I know this is a long post, but I would like to get it right the first time.

thanks for any help.

IMO there is far more slack to tap in behidn the headunit vs at the amp, use the antenna enable signal it will work

get the pac harness if u want to avoid splicing oem wiring (i would)

balance fade and eq will still work

u have a good equpiment selection

4ga is plenty
i use 16 for speakers, hell even 16 is prly adequate for a short run for the sub or u could use 14/12

start with highpassing speakers at 80 and lowpassing sub at 80

Pente - Thanks for the quick reply.

As I mentioned, I have a male connector that plugs right into the C2 female connector that I can wire it anyway I want. It is the delphi 15305213. these are the same connectors GM uses. this way I don't have to cut up the PAC or the oem connector.

The connector is only $1.95 plus $1.50 for pins. I wanted to do it at the amp so I did not have to remove the HU. since I am removing the amp anyway and it is much easier to get at.

What do you think about the Boxology stealthbox. Should I add polyfill? what does polyfill do.

You should include some polyfill in practically any sub enclosure. It serves to reduce reflections and resonance but it also slows the the air moving inside the box, this causes the volume of the box "appear" to be greater than it is to the subwoofer. The question is how much to use and that depends on the volume of the box and the requirements of the sub you'll be using.
