Hey guys,, I went through all the threads and could not find an answer to this stuff. So I'd appreciate any advice.
I just bought my 94 C4 last month and the radio sounds bad. First off, at low volume when the car is parked it sounds fine. Can't say I hear any sqeeling or anything. But, when I got the top down and I'm blasting down the road at 70mph, I can't turn the radio up enough to really hear anything off quality. I really start running into staticky bad sound at higher volumes for the cd and the radio.
I don't want to build a high end system. I just want to be able to hear my music fairly well on the highway.
This is what I got. A new Pioneer DEH-P660 head unit with everything else stock.
The head unit is rated at 50Wx4
Load impedence 4
First off I wonder if there is a compatablily issue with the speakers i have. The old head unit was a Delco cassette, so do I have Bose amped speakers?
If I just replace all 4 speakers with infiniti ones will that take care of my problem?
Well ok,,, I just figured most the stuff out myself. The Pioneer premier head unit has about 20 settings to adjust the sound. Seems like a nice unit, watching the penguins swim around underwater is sort of cool I guess.
So I went through the whole set-up deal and got things really sounding pretty good. Haven't taken it on the highway, but I'm pretty sure it will sound ok.
So at this point what I'd ask, is that I guess I got 15 year old Delco speakers. They sound just ok. If I keep the head unit I got, What would be a worthy speaker upgrade, assuming I won't get an amp? Are my speakers amped?
Read the C4 FAQ, if you haven't read it yet. As for what speakers to buy, the best advice is to go to a place that sells the speakers you may be interested in, and listen for your self.
It sounds like you don't have enough power from the factory speaker amps and it's causing the music to clip. You said you don't want to pay for a high end system but you can get pretty good sound with inexpensive aftermarket speakers and an amp. If you can install them yourself the price isn't that bad, did you have a price range? I don't know if using just the head unit's power supply is enough to get clear music that's loud enough if you're going 70 with the top down.
