really you cant put factory radio back in without the brackets... ill bet u a large sum of money you can and i have done well over 20 also.. those brackets are not needed to hold the oem radio, as well drilling is just creating an expoential amount of work
Why tear up the cage if you dont have too a professional installer would not use a reciporating saw to cut up a C5 at least I dont. Useing the right size drill bit works perfict I can have all 8 rivet out in less than 30 minutes easly.
You are correct you can install the factory radio with out that support bracket but I bet you the rear of the radio would sag GM put those brackets in there for a reasion dont you think.
There is no excuse to hack something up because its a littel hard to remove! OH lets brake out
the reciporating saw and cut them out of my Corvette....NICE

takes less then 5 with the recip saw and if u do it right u can cut vertically right through the rivets
To keep my initial costs down, could the DNX6140 fit right into the slot my existing stock radio uses? Or is this talk about cutting out the brackets apply to this radio?
Would Kenwood supply a wiring harness that would allow the use of the existing speakers?
I know the Bose speakers are not well thought of but honestily, mine sound just fine to me. I'd like to keep them, at least until they start to fail.
