I am going to purchase one of the boxes from doublemods and wondered if I should get 2 10's or one 12 subwoofer to install. I am going with top of the line woofers and amps so I would like to really thump when I hit the volume. Anyone have experience with either of these combinations?
Thanks
Either a single 12 Rockford Fosgate or 2 10 Alpines, their higher end ones. Amp will be either a 1000W Rockford or a 500W Rockford, not sure which one to go with?

are you doing a stealth box or hangover? the stealth series limits you to which subs can fit. the hangover allows a MUCH larger choice of sub to go with.
i am using a stealth but may go with hangover later down the line.
I have one 12 inch JL 12W3 in probably the worst place you can place a sub to get the best response from it and it is overkill. Unless you're one of those guys that needs 8 18's in the back of their Tahoe I think a single 12 in a Vette should do it for you, mine definitely thumps. I actually would go for one 10 if I would do it over.

You covered what I was about to say. Depending on the series sub, some 12's will not even fit in a hangover box. For example, a JL 12w6 will barely fit in a hangover box and even then, it has to have a volcano effect to work. I think a JL 10w6 in a hangover box is a great setup.
Regarding 12" subs....Anybody ever tried the DIYMA 12 ? Ebay item 200324156862.
Its a massive sub, may not fit. $150 shipped.
Sound quality wise: it's so far above that entry-mid-level stuff you were looking at before it isn't even funny.
It pumps out some decent bass, too.
But it's designed for sound quality, not for boom boom. Like SublimeZ said.
The cone is made of a very light, very stiff material. It's plenty sturdy to handle what it was built for. And that's one of the reasons it sounds fantastic. However, a few people got pretty happy with the gains and clipping and have broken the cone through abuse.
2 10's will technically be louder than 1 12", unless the 10's are hugely inefficient vs the 12" you choose.
I guess what one considers to be "enough" or "too much" bass is relative, but please understand that Rockford Fosgate or Alpine are not really "high end" subs. They are certainly solid, and better than what you would buy at Walmart, but not really "high end" by any means. High end for what your local store or Best Buy type place sells? Maybe
I have what can be turned into a "silly" level of bass in my vette with a single IDQ 12" sub and 270 watts. And believe me I understand "silly" bass 4-500 watts on a single 12 with a proper enclosure should be plenty of bass for just about anyone.

Agreed. I had a Kicker S10L7 that would hit 132 dB with my Xtant 603 amp pushing 300 watts to it. It was silly.
Now I run a Polk Momo DVC 12" and it sounds really nice.
Thanks to all, I think I have found a shop that I am comfortable with. The owner really talked about a lot of stuff that I have read on here like do's and don'ts. He said he has done a bunch of vetts to include C5's and some C6's. Once I get my system installed I will post pictures ect and if everything works out I will post his information in the shop section.
Looks like I am going to go with a single 12, now I have to figure out what to mount in the front/rear and choose a deck.

Good luck
Let us know how everything goes and make sure to post some pics!
Brands aside, I would say it depends on the rest of your system and how you plan to tune your midrange LP crossover. If your midrange is playing low, I'd go with the 12. if you plan to run your midranges crossover higher, the 10" will give you tighter bass
Honestly, I don't think you could get a stealth type box with enough volume to drive a 12 in a vette. Your only option would be building an ugly monstrosity that takes up most of the rear space. Then where are you going to put your golf clubs?
I'd go with the maximum air space available with your box selection, and match a 10" SQ Woofer with your cubes.
If you want a bland of SQ, and SPL, the RF L7 woofers pack a mean punch. My favorite SQ woofer is the Kapa Perfect 12, but a ten would do fine. Image Dynamics do well too.
If you need BIG bass, I'd do the 2 10's, the bass is tighter, which equates to better sound, plus you have more wiring options....
Sealed boxes for the win....
Good luck!
Edit* After looking at the box at DD mods, I would go with a single 10. If you want serious punch, ask them to cut a square hole in it to fit the Fosgate L710. That box isn't big enough to support two tens. Just glancing at it, it cant be more than 1/2 a cube before woofer displacement.... That's not very big. Most woofers come alive at about 1.5 cubes. Anything below that, and your not getting "the most" out of it...
