I am wondering if there is a defect in my stock bose system, when i turn the fade **** to 12 o'clock ,the front speakers (2001 coupe) are all I hear ,if I turn the **** to 10 o'clock then I can hear the rear speakers and the front speakers lose some volume, when I turn the **** to 9 o'clock just the rear speakers can be heard and not loud at all! From 12o'clock to 3o'clock nothing changes!! is this okay or should i take it to the dealer and let them fix? it? :chevy I'm afraid theyll tear the car apart trying to fix it, thanks in advance!!
The rear speakers are only for fill in. You have two choices.
The dealer tech has the ability with the Tech2 tool to adjust the balance between the channels. This feature was added for complaints like yours. The changes are perminately stored in the HU. I doubt mant dealers ever use this function, but it is possible, ask them about it. This will only "fix" your **** position problem.
If you want more sound out of the rear speakers, then go to an efficient 2 or 3 way speaker that has a swivel tweeter that can be pointed at the occupants heads. Since the Twiddlers are only fed 1khz and up audio due to the Bose Signal Processor, bass performance of any new speaker is a waste. Get speakers that have good midrange and highs.
Your other option is to add low cost tweeters in parallel with the rear speakers. The wires for the rear speakers are available at the back of the HU. You can also mount the tweeters somewhere in the rear cabin and point them at the occupants.
Another problem in the C5 Bose system is that in MY opinion, the gain of the Twiddler amps inside the HU is too low. Why this was done, I have no clue. You cannot drive the Twiddler amp to full power on some audio source material, yet you can always drive the sub amps to full power. I opened up my HU and increased the gain of the amp. Unfortunately, this is not a mod that the average peron can do.
Thank you 99ht!! I will probably take it to the dealer, If I want to put tweeters in parrallel with the back speakers,is the hu ( head unit) in back of the radio?no sure where that is ...thanks!
