Default Need opinions on setup

OK, so I am still working on designing a replacement for my Bose speakers and amp in my 2009 coupe. I have pretty much decided on the Alpine PDX-5 as the amp.

I originally thought about 6.5" components in the doors, 5.25" coaxial in the rear, and a 10" sub in a stealth box in the back.

The problem is I don't really like the way any of the stealth boxes look and I don't want to give up the space either.

My latest idea is to replace the 3.5" Bose speakers in the door with BA 3.5" coaxial and BA 5.25" coaxial in the rear.

The big question is, can I use a pair of 8" or 10" shallow subs in the doors. I understand that I would need to use plenty of sound deadening in the doors.

Do you all think this setup give me an acceptable sound.

yes u can i did a pair of pioneer slim 8s in the doors of a car with minimal deadner and polks front and back on pdx5 and it worked out well, the free air natur of the door are deffiently the limiting factor of the door. u may be able to fit the pioneer slim 10 which would be a better option then the 8s.

Personally I'm not a fan of either coaxial speakers or using doors as sub enclosures. Of the two door subs are the larger evil in my mind though. As Greg mentioned, the airspace is your limiting factor as the doors are not sealed. Also when you put those in there and start hammering bass you are going to create a rattle-trap. There's a wiring harness in there, though admittedly in C6 there is only ONE (I was amazed and impressed with the very efficient, clean engineering of the door harness) you still have the window and its mechanism to deal with.

I would rather compromise on storage and appearance in the hatch that go the route you have laid out. If you do decide on the coaxial route then really the only reason to put in an amp is for a sub so what you may even want to do is try the minimalist route first - replace the stock speakers with the coaxials, leave the factory subs and let your ears tell you if it's enough for you.

My pair of (admittedly rather purist) pennies.

Steve, I did your first option. Components, co-ax, sub. I used a JL Stealthbox. I think its one of the smallest, lightest custom subs loaded with a good driver. It really doesnt take up alot of room and you can still stow the targa. The 10" sub really adds that missing element of sound and together with quality components and co-ax really gets the job done. Some here will advice against co-ax in the rears but I think they add to the wall of sound effect w/o compromising quality. All top tier auto today have multiple speaker combos. Try and get to a meet and check some systems out.

Just so I'm clear on the coax issue... for rear fill coaxial speakers do the job just fine. The question is whether to install rear fill or not and there's no right or wrong there, it's entirely a matter of personal taste.

Understood, to each his own.

i agree komoman my personaly prefence is similar to yours. my customer came to me wanting no sub box and wanted to try subs in the doors and i have done them on other cars so i went for it. its doable and will actually sound decent but will require lots of deadening. the results in the c6 actually shocked me it turned out pretty good. Now IMO go with a quality component set to get solid mid bass and some will skip the sub all together

Anyone ever installed these "subs" in a car?

Very small but needs to be physically coupled to the listener usually through the seat or floor.
