I'm planning on eventually putting an MP3 player in my 85 Corvette. I'd perfer an in dash unit rather than one that runs with a changer. Anybody know of a good, fair priced, attractive unit? Thanks :yesnod:
I got one of these. If you're looking for a hard-disk based system, this is the best deal out there IMHO. Check it out. No more messing with CDs... http://www.sonicblue.com/audio/rio/riocar.asp
(Go to the buy button to see if they still have them left)
They have some 30GB ones left for $399 and you can still install an additional drive in the future if you need to. They are closing them out and have sold out of 10GB ($199) and 20GB ($299) units. There's a big user community BBS and the company still supports the product, and because of its high geek-factor (it runs on Linux) there are quite a few programmers coming out with software for it. http://empeg.comms.net/php/ubbthreads.php?Cat=
Best player you can buy currently is the Alpine 7878. Try http://www.mmxpress.com They have some on sale right now, probably because this years models are coming out soon and they need to clear backstock.
Re: MP3 Player Suggestions Wanted. (92TripleBlack)
Do you happen to know anything about the Aiwa CDC-MP3? Tt's got a good price but I havn't heard anything about it quality wise. I know Alpine makes a great product, but I'm a teenager and can't really swing $700 bucks into car audio equipment.

Right now I'm kinda set on the AIWA CDC-MP32 ~$200. From what I've heard and read they are an OK component. I'm also looking at the Rockford Fosgate RFX 9300 ~$300.
I'm an old-fart and won't spend a lot of money on the audio equipment.
The Aiwa will probably last a few years. Long enough for MP3 to be replaced or you to finish school and make bucks to buy bigger toys. Takes time but they come. Heck, I didn't get my vette till I was 29.
Re: MP3 Player Suggestions Wanted. (92TripleBlack)
the iowa unit is ok, the only thing I don't like about it is that skips alittle to much, I just picked up a rockford rfx-9300 for 250.00 at ebay, I will install it in the next couple of days, I will let you know how is it
The major manufacturers are all coming out with decks that play mp3s in the $400 and under category. If you can wait a few weeks or so, your choices will be a little better.
I'm also looking... I stopped by Best Buy today and they had 2 models that I found appealing. A Rockford Fosgate RFX9000 and a Sony Xplode MP450 (both around $300)
I'd love some feedback on the RF when you get it installed... anyone have any experience with the Sony?
The Sony seemed much more powerful, and I like the wireless remote, but I've heard nothing but praise for RF.
I don't think the sony would look very good in a Corvette, unless you have red interior. I'm looking for a decent cd player with MP3 capability, at a decent price and that is black w/ orange or green accents.

I picked up a Rockford Fosgate RFX9400 for 267 on eBay. I should be installing it next Sunday with new rear speakers (new fronts haven't been purchased). I can't wait!!!
If you have patience you could probably find a good deal on what you want. Watch for refurbished units that do not include all the parts that were in the new box. I couldn't find a refurb AIWA with the steering wheel remote :(
Patience works well with eBay, remember if you don't win the first auction there are a bunch more for the exact same model!
I have a Alpine CDA-7878 with XM radio. It is worth the $1000. I paid for the pair of them. mp3's have quick access of about 1/4 second between tracks along with a great built in crossover. Check yahoo for a site called "highway mp3". That is a great review site for in car mp3 players.

87 L98 coming this weekend. My first Corvette
hands down best dollar value mp3 player and has more features than any other mp3 player aside from one with a built in hard drive
Thanks for the info, after reading about it that sounds great, just about exactly what I want and a good price on ebay. Very cool that they are XM ready too.
