where is a good place to mount an amp in a c6? i would love to do behind the passenger seat but i am worried about screwing down an amp back there with the gas tank just on the other side of the wall and also i think the amp i have would overheat back there.
That is where mine is located. It turned out to be the best option (Vert). The other area I was considering was the trunk under the Vert partition, but the trunk gets VERY hot on long drives - not good for the amp. It stays cooler behind passenger seat. I may have sacrificed a smidge in passenger seat room - let's see if my wife even notices = doubt it.
Be EXTREMELY careful mounting an amp there because of those gas tanks!!!
The best practice if you decide you are willing to give up the leg room would be to scuff up the plastic wall under the carpet and gorilla glue a board to it then attach the amp to that.
I have a Zapco DC1000.4 mounted in the trunk of my convertible and haven't had any trouble with heat. I also ran an Alpine PDX-4.150 in the driver's side cubby (no Onstar in my car) and didn't have any trouble with that either.
there is plenty of room behind the seat. I screwed a board to the back, then mounted the amp to the board. There is about 1 to 1.5 in between the body of the car and the tank....so chose your screw wisely
my thought right now is to pull the carpet up in the cargo area and glue down two boards running side to side between the two cubbies. replace carpet and then screw the amp down to the boards. or possibly having a custom enclosure made for the drivers cubby with a custom amp rack extension that protrudes out so i can mount the amp.
You mean like this? Ok, I went a little overboard..
Top still fits fine....
Great job! Very nice work....Did you do the fabrication yourself? If so, hats off to your ability & craftsmanship.....
By the way, how do those 8's sound in those cubbys? That for me, is going to be the greatest hurdle in my C6 build. To get the right woofer into the right sized enclosure without looking ghetto is something that I've yet to see.
Please don't get me wrong, your install looks beautiful, and I'm sure it sounds great, but I doubt that those cubbys have the necessary volume air space to maximize the woofers potential.
What type & model of subs are you using?

What type & model of subs are you using?
They are not 8" subs they are 10" Rockford Fosgate P3D410 Shallow mount subs. Their ideal volume is .50-.75 cu ft and the enclosures are
.50 and .55 so they match the enclosures really well. They get extremly loud and they stay clean. I'm pumping 250 watts into each sub but they will take a good bit more. Keep in mind the enclosures extend out from the cubby's in both directions but with the cover on they appear smaller then they are.
I did not make the sub enclosures or the amp rack/cover. Those were made by SubThump and were very reasonable in cost compared to most of the other stuff out there. He did send me the screen material and I cut the screen to match the vents and then painted the screens AO then applied clear.
Many won't like that the amps/subs take up so much room and if you are a person who needs more room something like this won't work but honestly, I don't ever put anything besides the top in my hatch area so using up all that space does not matter to me.
Mike, nice setup. What speakers are you running up front and rears?
Thanks! No rear speakers. I'm running the Pioneer Premier TS-720PRS in the doors. The Pioneers sound amazing. I'm very happy I went with these over the Focals.
