Install took about 30 minutes. This was really easy and they do not rattle on top of the back speakers. Someone pointed out that the rear speakers are twittlers? well that is exactly the point. They do not put out really great highs or lows, I made an assumption that the signal from the amp head would be a full signal. It sounds to me from the results of the install that it is a full signal. I thought the little speakers looked cool sitting on top of the back ones. I hope you try this to see for yourself and do not cut any holes in your speaker face until you are satisfied they are helping your sound response. That way you can be the judge. If you don't like them take them out. Good luck with the little speakers.
Re: Nice Stereo upgrade for only $19.95 (darkmercury)
I was wrong on my earlier post. Check out 99HT's awesome audio write up and he recommends adding the tweeters to the rear speakers. It is a full range signal going to the rears...but there isn't a tweeter to reproduce the highs. This is definatly on my things to do list now.
When you add a "4" ohm tweeter and it's crossover in parallel with the front 3.5" Bose Twiddlers, the amplifier will see a more complicated load. The impedance that the amplifier will see will be very low where the two speakers overlap in frequency response. The front 3.5" Bose Twiddler will have a frequency response similar to any add on tweeter. In reality it may be best to put the add on tweeter in parallel with the rear 5.25"/6.5" Bose Twiddler wires. The rear Twiddler is a mid range speaker. Putting a tweeter and crosover in parallel with it will mean very little overlap in the frequency response of the two speakers. The amplifier will not have to supply as much current at a specific frequency to both speakers at once, so it will run cooler and produce less distortion. The rear Bose Twiddler wires are available on the back of the HU.
Taking this a step further wouldn't a good 6.5" "full range" speaker work even better? If there is a full range signal at the rear speakers what wacky reason did Bose/Delco only put in a mid-range speaker. A kick butt 6.5 would be even better - right? Where are the speaker amps with the Bose/Delco system? Does it matter?
I agree these $20 tweeters may be the best audio bang for the buck but going the next step might really take the factory sonics to a whole new level.

I think you're right. I believe 99HT (stereo guru) said the same thing (click the link in dba4life's post above) and suggested getting a speaker with an adjustable tweeter to angle it toward the front as well. You could go that route or buy speakers with a separate tweeter and mount it on the pillar to get the proper angle as another option.
As for the Radio Shack tweeters, I stopped by yesterday evening and picked up a little smaller pair (I'll edit with the part # when I get home) for the same $20 and I'll give them a try. Hell it's only 20 bucks, so if it doesn't work out, no big deal as I've wasted more money on plenty of other crap. :D
I re-read HT99's post and in it he does state that replacing the rear 6.5" speakers is doable. Guess I'll do the tweeter upgrade first. Can't so wrong for $20. BTW I heard some great MB Quart speakers, a new XMS receiver in a friends car and I might head down that path one of these days. The factory already has cut holes out for us. Two really good 8" sub's up front might be worth looking into. But that's for another day.
I just got back from Radio Shack and just finished the install. It was simple. Haven't really gotten a chance to try them out yet, but listened for a few minutes in the garage.
I wonder what the bean counters at Radio Shack are going to think when they see a run on these speakers nationwide!
The metal grills just pop off from the top. I used my finger so I would not bend them. Its easy! The whole thing is easy to do. All you need is a good Stevie Ray Vaughn cd to play and you can hear the difference. The Sky is falling is one of my favorites. I would think a good upgrade speaker in the back would do great. My only reservation with a bigger speaker that pulls more power would be it might cause the head unit to work harder. You may cause it to fail sooner. That would be a big no no. :D  :D
Just received this reply from 99HT regarding replacing the rear speakers with a good full range speaker. This is his reply
"The rear speakers are only fed 1khz and above. Putting new speakers in with good bass response, is a waste of money. Pick speakers with good midrange and highs. If you use a 2 or 3 way speaker, then adding an additional tweeter in parallel will mean that the HU amp will be driving two 4 ohm tweeters in parallel. This will slightly increase the distortion of the highs for the rear.
The MAIN thing to recognise is that the rear speakers don't point at the occupants ears. If you add rear speakers, get a model with a swivel tweeter that could be point forward."
Bottom line the rear signal is cut below 1000 khz no sense wasting time and money replacing the rear 6.5".
The tweeter is the way to go. BTW at Radio Shack they had two different sets of these tweeters, the set for $19.95 and a smaller pair for $29.95. The smaller set was marked down to $19.95. The specs were the same but half the size. I think I get them.

Tom, the specs on the speakers are different. The speakers that are on sale for $19.95 have a frequency response of 5k to 30khz and a lower wattage rating. I started to get them myself but noticed the sale speakers were not as good as the regular priced ones, pg 348 RS 2002 catalog. The 40-1217 is the better buy for the money, more power handling, better frequency response. The very best way to find out though is to listen to them. If they sound good, and you like them, you got the better buy. Enjoy.
Your right I just got back. I did buy the $19.95 set. I may play with the mounting location as per 99HT and try to mount them up on the B pillar. I figure velcro or two way carpet tape would hold them in place. They don't weigh anything. And if I don't like the sound I can always relocate them lower.
Thanks for the tip. If I have any questions I'll contact you off line.
Thanks for the great idea, Turbo5! And there I was thinking I'd have to break my streak of a mod every Wednesday night (my wife's gone at a class for ~4 hours).. :D

I agree! I'll be checking them out soon.

Thanks are due to all the guys from the Audio section of the Corvetteforum for all the information they have posted to help get this and many more projects in our cars, 99HT and all the guys. This is a great forum and full of fun and informative people to talk with. It has pulled me out of many a pinch with the information posted.
