I am getting ready to purchase the speakers for my new audio system and I can't decide. Would you guys go with the Premium line from MB Quart,or something from JL Audio. I plan on purchasing from Onlinecarstereo.com. Anyone have any advice on this?
JL all the way! I love the sound of JL never really cared for MB.
Good luck with your stereo. I am just north of you maybe I will see you on the road someday.
From everything I've heard if it's between those 2 brands then it's JL hands-down. I would also recommend for the components going with one of their sets with the larger format tweeters. Their least expensive (anything JL is expensive so it's all relative!) component sets use 5/8" tweeters and small cabins like Vettes tend to be bright. A small format tweet in a bright cabin can get shrill in a hurry so I'd go with a 7/8" or larger tweet, 3/4" at the minimum.
Take a look at the Pioneer Premier PRS720's as well. A very surprising value performer and uses a 1 1/8" textile tweet that is a little easier on the ears in small cabins.
Unless you like very bright highs, JL is the better option. As was mentioned stay away from their lower end line with the small tweets. You end up sacrificing some midrange performance as well with that set.
I really liked my Pioneer 720prs set. For $250 (or less) their performance is very hard to beat. Honestly, I would throw them against the JL CS 650 set and come out on top 8/10 times. The JL ZR set might be better only due to their power handling, but for that money you should be buying the Focal or DLS sets
Wow,I can't even express how surprised I am that nobody picked MB's. I listen to all kinds of music. I like crisp high's but not ear piercing highs. I'm not really looking for volume either. Just quality.

You prob would get a different response if we were talking about "old school" made in germany mb quart, like their Q series stuff. I had a set of the old mb quart stuff and it was nice. I cant comment on mb quart today. I believe it is still "designed" in germany but made elsewhere.
If you want to try something different like at the RE audio xxx 6.5 comps. They retail for 799 but you can pick them up on ebay for 299 new. The 6.5 midbass is a BEAST. I was reading a test report that said it had the same excursion as some of RE's 10 in subs (prob their entry level lines).
If I was to consider spending the extra money on a set of Focal(front and rear),where is the best place to get them? I know Crutchfield carries them, but everyone knows the pricing there Is just nuts.
For the money, a set of DLS UP6.5's, or the UR6.5's (my favorite).
I've heard a lot of speakers in my day, and "for the money", it's really hard to beat a set of DLS UP's. They are an absolutely amazing speaker, SQ for days, and they can take a BEATING as well.
I've heard some JL comps, and they do sound nice with the right power, nice, crisp & clean, but I prefer a warmer, softer sound.
