I am installing a DNX 9140 in my 2007 Z06 and was considering installing a backup camera in the 3rd brake light (drill a hole, etc) but am open to alternate locations.
Looking for advice with camera model numbers so I can purchase and install. I am not a real tech savvy guy so a lot of 1st grader level talk helps.
Here's a pic of guy that made want looks like a L shape bracket and mounted a camera to the rear license plate. I've got the Kenwood CCD-2000 camera that I was able find for $50. Since I've already got the Escort ZR4 rear laser jammer mounted on the rear plate I'm just going to mount the camera on top of it. Here a link to pics.
I have the Power Acoustic LP-1CA camera. It works great and is very discrete. Do a google and you can find it for under $120 shipped, just make sure it looks like this:
There is a big ugly version floating around with a similar part number that isn't nearly as discrete. Also, stay away from hifisoundconnection, they list stuff as BIN on ebay that they don't have in stock then refuse to refund your money once you figure it out (a month later).
I like the way yours looks also, but I had already ordered mine or I would have gotten one like yours. Here are a few pictures of the reverse image. Not as sharp as yours but hey it works.
Thank you both! Now all I have to figure out is how I will mount both the "shifter" unit of a Escort 9500ci and a backup cam... or find another cam with a video out that looks as nice as either of these.
Damn, hope my ride isn't becoming a "crap magnet".
Maybe someone with that particular unit can chime in but my dnx 7100 takes about 15 seconds to boot up and I am already in reverse and backing up by that time so for my unit a camera would not be very useful.
The camera I have installed, show's a image as soon as your in reverse, and the 9140 is not finished booting, of course I do not just shut the door and take off, I do buckle up and adjust my seating which takes about 10 to 15 secs. don't really time it.
Forum members are the best! Thanks for the tips guys. The plate frame style is sleek and would do fine if I didn't spend so much on my CG color matched frame already.. I'm looking for a camera that will not jump out at you. Something that looks factory made, if you know what I mean? The bar style over the plate is an option but black on top of a cg frame might look strange? I'll have to continue looking but thanks again for you help.
