I recently purchased and installed a complete (in dash tuner, amplifier and speakers) Pioneer system for a car I restored. The dash unit is a DEH-P6000UB. It has the capability of playing songs from a USB mass storage device. I can use my Blackberry smart phone but I'd rather not. By USB mass storage device does it mean that I can use a USB Flash Card to store music on and play it thru the Pioneer? Not sure if I can get away with a flash card or if I need something else like an iTouch or iPod.
Here's my question: Can I use a USB Flash Card to store music on and play thru this P600UB? I'm not sure that the user manual specifies well enough whether or not a flash card will work. All it mentions is the use of USB mass storage devices, not specifically a flash card. Before I spend money on one I figured I'd ask.
"USB Input: In addition to connecting an iPod, the rear panel USB input allows you to connect a USB portable audio player or USB flash memory that is USB Mass Storage Class compliant. A 57" USB extension cable is included to allow you access to the USB connection after the receiver is installed."
So I'd say that a thumb drive would work just fine. Just to be safe, get one of the cheaper ones at wal-mart. I think it's only about $15 for the 4GB models these days.
