So I was in a semi-local car audio shop today and one of the installers suggested an interesting setup. I figured I would check on here and see if anyone is running something similar.
I know I want to keep the rear speakers just for a little fill. He suggested running my 5 channel amp and bridging front and rear channels to the front speakers and then running the rear off the headunit just for a touch of fill. And of course the 10" L5 sub I have. Anyone running this kind of setup? I know there are a lot of anti-rear speaker people on here so if anyone is running something like this please let me know if you like it.
Thanks guys.

Bridging the fronts is possible, will create more load and heat on the amp however, which may influence your install location in order to keep it at a comfortable operating temperature.
It is not a bad idea, and if your amp has sufficient crossovers, or your HU has them built in, you could run the tweets off of Channel 1/2, the mids off of 3/4 and the sub off of 5 with the HU powering the "rear fill".
Just a disclaimer, I think rear fill, unless watching movies in your ride (and even then) is pointless in a vette. Very small cabin, easy to fill it with sound from the right place.
As for the rear speaker opinion. I'm not even going to go there cause the arguement is pointless on this forum.
It's not pointless, it's just that those of us who like having the rear speakers are seriously outnumbered
I considered doing the stock amp to the rears, but figured it would be hard to get the balance difference right at different volume levels, so I just went with a normal 5 channel setup. If you're used to the stock amp, the 4x70+210x1 of your new amp will be more than enough for you. Mine is only 55x4+200x1 and I absolutely love it.
FYI, I actually like having the rear speakers, I think the V1 is ugly, I only wash my vette about once every two months (even though it's my only car and I drive it every day), and I eat in it on a regular basis after hitting drive-throughs. I suspect now that I went public with all of that I'll be banned within a week
I have a 4 ch infinity 111rms x4 running 6.5 polk/momo comps, and alpine coax 6.5 rears front gain is 3/4 rear is 1/2, sub is a sony xplode 12" dvc with an mtx amp bridged, I also have a pioneer avic d1 head unit. system rocks and i love the rear fill....
I think you actually get better signal to noise ratio by bridging the fronts in your case. In fact, I'm still up in arms if I'm going passive or full active in my vette. I like active x-overs because of the degree of control. There's always something I don't like about any manufacturers passives.
I have an Alto Mobile UP Pro that absolutely spoiled my ears, and I just can't seem to live without it anymore....
By keeping your front volume level of the deck at a lower level as well as your gain, you will experience less distortion, adding to your s/n ratio....
