I'm looking at replacing my audio in my '96. Currently it has bose HU, Soundstream amp, 5.25" MBquarts, and 6x9 Nakamichi.
So far I'm considering replacing everything except the amp (due to $$).

Question....
Where can I find design guides for car audio on the web?
(I've un-successfully looked and only found forums and opinions)

Guides that explain how you match Wrms on amps to speakers? Sealed enclousres vs open air? etc. etc..

TIA,
NoGood-

Ok, so I'll just bang away the questions here:

1. I have a AMP that puts out 60 Wrms at 4 ohm. What power speakers should I get to size that?

2. Can I hurt a speaker by under driving them?? (60W rmp AMP connected to 150 Wrms speakers)

3. How do sealed enclsoure affect bass vs. open-air?? How do I tell if a speaker wants to be installed in a sealed enclsoure??

4. Advantages to running AMP at 4 ohm VS. 2 ohm? Does quaility lessen at 2 ohm??

5. What is the "ideal" placement for tweeters??

Any help is appreicated...

This site will answer many of your questions, but everything other than the mathematical calculations is still just going to be someones opinion.

1. something with a rating of at least 70 wrms

2. no

3. the sub manufacturers publish recommended encolsure volumes for each speaker. most can be installed either way, but have different volume requirements. ported boxes are a bit louder (for the same amp), but aren't quite as 'crisp'.

4. less ohms=more power=louder music. if the amp is stable down to 2ohms, then no damage, but again, look at the specs for your gear.

5. somewhere with an unobstructed path to your ears.
