Default Opinions Wanted

I am in the process of replacing the sound system in my '07 Coupe. My car has the 3LT package including Bose, XM, and Onstar. Here is what I have purchased so far:

Head Unit: Plan to use stock radio/CD player with XM subscription.
Subwoofers: 2 - JL Audio 10w3v3 subs to be mounted in sealed boxes set in cubby holes in rear hatch.
Subwoofer Amp: JL Audio Slash 500/1 v2 to be mounted between subs in rear hatch.

Here are my questions:

Should I put 6.5 in. components in the doors to replace the Bose woofers and include the 1 in. tweeters similar to the stock setup?

Should I go with another size speaker in the doors where the Bose woofers are, and if so, what is the largest size speaker you would recommend?

I intend to replace and use the rear speakers directly behind the seats. Will coaxial speakers larger than 6.5 in. fit in the existing holes without modification (assuming 6.5 in. speakers will fit in stock holes)?

Am looking at Focal component and coaxial speakers (ex. 165 CVX for rears and 165 V1 for doors) - a little pricey but are they worth the money? Are there others that are less expensive but give comparable sound?

Lastly, what do you suggest to improve this setup and what amp would work with the JL equipment to drive the tweets and bass speakers in the doors and the ones behind the seats?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Don

6.5 components are the most popular choice for the front.

The rears in C6 are 5.25, not 6.5

I'll let the experts give you advice on the amp.

6.5 components up front for sure
5.25s in the rear, to go bigger would require modding the panel that covers em and honestly isnt needed

IMO it seems as if u are looking at some quality equpiment yet wanna keep stock headunit, I would rather go with non JL amps and maybe just 1 10" sub and or slightly less high end speakers if it ment putting an aftermarket headunit in. The OEM headunit will hold you back as far as SQ

Markcz, thanks for the clarification on the size of the rear speakers as I was under the impression they were 6.5 inches.

Penta, thank you for your input. I will go with 6.5 components up front and 5.25s in the rear. I've already purchased the 500/1 and two 10w3v3 subs so I cannot go back there. I hear you on replacing the HU. The reasons I want to keep the OEM HU at least for now are:

Retain an OEM-looking dash-for possible resale and theft prevention purposes;
Retain as much as possible all OEM interior accessories and chimes; and
Still be able to receive Sirius/XM without the need for a separate tuner like what would be needed with the Kenwood 7140.

I may end up changing the HU later on but determined to keep in for now. I've since decided that I probably won't run the Focals. What I am now considering is:

5.25 for rears-Polk Audio MM521 2-way
6.5 components for front-Polk Audio MM6501

Any comments on these Polk Audio speakers?

Thanks again all for the input.

Good to hear this. Can a 4-channel amp like the JL Audio G4500 drive these or do I need an amp with more channels for the tweeters and the center speaker?

One 4-channel amp like the one you mentioned is perfect for the front and rear speakers you have listed. Each 'set' of speakers has a crossover that wires into an output channel of the amp, so as far as the amp is concerned the 6.5" mid and the smaller tweet appear as one speaker.

One pair of MM6501 in the front + one pair of MM521 in the back = 4 speakers.

The C5 coupe has 6.5 speakers in the rear. C6 is 5.25

Thanks again, for your comments an input.

I will be finalizing the purchases this week and will begin the install sometime after that.

Again, thanks to all that responded. This forum is of tremendous help as usual.
