I've been lurking on these forums for a couple of weeks now, and have just bought myself a used 2002 A4 Coupe in torch red. Thanks to the posts here I have many links to useful suppliers and instructions for installing a Donaldson Blackwing. Looks pretty straight forward. Thanks guys!
However, I have a portable MP3 player and want to use that in the Vette, so I need an external feed into the sound system. I'm sure the head unit can accept an external source as the CD changer is an option. How could one hook in RCA connections to the head unit as an alternative to the CD changer?
Assuming some kind of wiring adjustment is required will I need to remove the head unit? Is this an easy task? I'm not too confident I wouldn't screw this up, can anyone recommend someone in the Denver area to fix this up for me?
Re: Adding RCA inputs to sound system-- How? (pip)
Unfortunately at this point in time, the only way to do what you want to do is to open up your HU and do some surgery on the motherboard, adding a switching system.
The CD changer or AUX inputs cannot be enabled without a CD changer connected to the HU. The HU expects a data stream continuosly sent to it from the changer. I am working on a "black box" to fake the HU into switching to the AUX inputs, but I need more technical info on the E&C data bus.

If you manage to do this let us all know. I'm sure there are many of us who'd like to be able to do this, but like me have nowhere near the technical knowledge to do it. Glad you're here!
