Im looking to finish up the system in my car that was started by the previous owner. Currently it consists of a Kenwood KDC-X791 head unit and 1 pair of Kenwood KFC-XR401 4" 2-way speakers (I think they are in the doors).
Now Im wondering what to put in the rears. If heard 6x9's but what brand/type? Stick with Kenwood? I might put 2 8" subs in the rear as well.
Also I have a big Pioneer GM-X722 2-channel amp, can/should i use this? Do I even need an amp?
For the most part I listen to rock music and I like it loud!

I have a convertible and used Kenwood 6x9's in the rear and put in infinity dash speakers with a pioneer head unit. Also have Panasonic door speakers. The 6x9's are very loud with alot of wind noise. If you have a coupe and don't run it that loud then maybe JL or Pioneer would be sufficent.
always use an amp, the signal is better and the power cant be made up wityh anything else, use your 2 ch amp for 2 subs or bridged with 1 sub. and get a nice 4 ch int amp. I have an awesome art series ppi amp thats 50x4, Id be int in parting with.

Might be a stupid question. When Im looking for speakers and amps that are compatable what do I look for? For instance, I want to run 2 8" subs and 2 6x9's on one amp. So I need a 4 channel but what watt output would I need?

You would first need to see what the speaker manufacturer recommends. All speakers have a power rating. You can exceed it, but not by too much. This is also true for subs, you will want to make sure you are giving them enough power to work properly. If you are going to install two eight inch subs in the rear, the best thing to do is just but them in the stock speaker locations.

This is how I did it in my old car.worked very well, and was stealth.
The only thing is that I want to keep the rear speakers as well.
You need to some reading on the subject. Most people on this forum will let you that w/ the right front speakers, rear speakers are a waste. The most important thing to do for a C4 is to raise the front sound stage by mounting the tweeters on the top of the doors, or on the dash/A pilliars. Doing this will raise the front sound stage so that you can really hear it; then the rear speakers become unnecessary.
