I just had an Alpine INA-W900 installed in my 2008 coupe. The bose amp was retained but the rear speakers were rewired directly to the head unit (aftermarket speakers were put in the rear and the front 3 1/2" speakers were replaced). The stereo worked fine for about 3 days. Today when I started the car, the rear speakers came on but the front speakers did not. After about 10 minutes the front speakers came on. Later in the day I started the car again...no front speakers again and they did not come on for the entire 30 minutes I drove the car.
I called the stereo store that installed the stereo and they called PAC. Seems there is a known problem with the OS-2BOSE; it will not supply enough current to start the bose amp. At least not consistently. The stereo store recommended installing a relay to fix the problem. Has anyone had a similar problem?
sorry i misread haha i thought it was gmos04 that you were using
I'm actually getting ready to purchase a new system for my C6, and I'm a bit concerned about the adapters. It seems like no one's made a real trustworthy adapter for aftermarket stereos and the GM BOSE systems.
I upgraded the stereo in my 2005 GMC pickup to a Kenwood DNX9140. It also required one of those adapters, either the GMOS04 or the PAC. Based on recommendations from others, I went with the PAC unit. I lost the factory door chime with it, which I kind of expected. However, the associated PAC adapter to bring the chime back: doesn't work. I tried 2 of them, and neither one worked at all.
The stereo shop I had install the DNX said they've run into no problems with the GMOS04 adapter, and it retains the factory chime. They also suggest perhaps using the Metra GMOS-100 vs. the 04. Anyone have any experience with that one?
Hm. I'm a little confused as to which adapter to go with for my Corvette. Ugh.
It's Metra's replacement/upgrade for the GMOS04. Seen here.
why u lost chimes on ur truck i dont know
It's possible the installer screwed it up, but it seemed like a pretty straight-forward wiring job. My suspicion is that the PAC device is just a cheap piece of trash, and I got 2 bad ones. Given the trouble I'm having with the Kenwood in the truck, I'm beginning to think the other PAC adapter is also junk.
is ur car onstar or not
The truck and car are both OnStar equipped. And yes, I care about keeping the OnStar functionality.
IMO go with pac harness. the gmos-100 does appear to be a new harness but after all the problems with the gmos04 i would be leary. i have used 100s of pac harness and never an issue, i refuse to use a gmos04
the pac harness use the same delphi chipset that gm uses where as the others use a knockoff chipset

Wow, thanks for posting this.... It totally made sense, as I put in a replacement system (Z110BT) and it worked initally, then once in a while no sound, and then finally complete failure. I did use a PAC OS-2BOSE, and sure enough a relay appears to have mitigated the issue...for now anyway.
UPDATE: Relay was put in. Stereo worked for a few days. Now the front speakers are out again. Stereo store now plans to take the 12V turn on lead off off the PAC unit and on to a relay...or something like that.
I had problems like this and couldn't get it fixed properly (on my own w/help from here). I tried different adapters, different brand adapters and new HU. No luck.
What I ended up doing was bypassing the PAC for the amp turn on (I think thats what it was). Its been flawless. However, since I'm not putting the power through the PAC, there is no OnStar service so the phone and calling the OnStar people wont work. However, I'm still "uplinked" because I get the mileage and oil change reports.
My problem eventually returned, just like tweaver's. It always seems to work when first turning on for the day, but a half hour or so down the road....no sound. I called PAC and the gentleman I spoke with suggested that this is not an uncommon issue in the Corvette in particular. He gave me three choices: 1.) Use a PAC TR-4 (low-voltage relay), 2) Wire the turn-on directly from the head unit, bypassing the OS-2BOSE, or 3.) Try someone else's product.
I don't use Onstar, so I'm thinking of just bypassing the os-2Bose for just the turn-on. If I did, I'm thinking that Onstar would still work, provided the head unit was on. It would be nice to know I could use OnStar's services if I wanted to at some point.
Anyway, that is my situation for now. Based on my experience, for those w/ Bose looking to do a straight-forward head unit-only swap, I would steer away from PAC. The reviews seem mixed on the Metra GMOS-04, too. I'm thinking of trying one though. Any thoughts?
Instead of bypassing the trigger wire around the interface, connect the radio trigger wire to both the trigger inlet and outlet of the interface. That way your amps will power up when the radio is on, and the interface should power up if you want to use onstar. If the interface also decides to pass voltage thru, bonus.
I grabbed a Metra Axxess GMOS04. What do you know....it tells you in the instructions specifically for 05-09 Vettes that you must use an SPDT relay! huh. So I threw it in the relay..same problem..BOSE doesn't turn on.
I turns out that the REAL problem was the relay that I was using. Stupid me put in a SPST relay, thinking that for these purposes, it wouldn't make a difference. The SPDT relay I ended up using (the one that came on the OS-2BOSE harness, as I switched to using the GMOS04) will switch on with only 4.5 volts (voltage the metra was supplying the relay to turn it on, and THE reason you need a relay in the first place, as the BOSE needs much more for turn-on to occur), where as the SPST relay I grabbed at the parts store required too much voltage and never switched on.
So my guess is that either integration piece would work (OS-2BOSE or GMOS04) if I had used the correct relay in the first place. I'm not going to test the OS-2BOSE, though....I've had enough.
My perceived GMOS04 benefits over OS-2BOSE:
RCA Preamps in the harness (Installing AVIC Z110BT)
Chime sounds like factory
Better instuctions (although I did have to chase down VSS and reverse)
No additional chime module required
Doesn't sound any worse that the OS-2BOSE
Install the relay or bypass the turn on wire from the start.
I was NOT thrilled about taking apart the dash and fixing the "no sound" issue after only having my z110bt in for a week. Went for lunch today and no probs, after lunch no sound. Knew what it was right away and if I did the install again I'd do it the "preventative" way.
I wonder how many people dont ever have this issue though. Mine is a "v2" of the pac os2bose I figured a new version perhaps meant this issue was now fixed but I was wrong!
I just had a Kenwood 9960 installed, first PAC went dead in two days. They installed a relay and it lasted two weeks and dead again, I talked with the people at Metra's and they said to buy the GMOS-100. They said it would carry the current of the Bose amp. It is being ship overnight so i should have it installed hopefully tomorrow. It also has all features built into it, Onstar, Chimes, Steering controls. Will see how this one works.
Went thru 2 os2bose adapters before I realized what the problem was. Just finished doing the amp remote bypass and everything seems to be working fine now. Only took me maybe 20 minutes to do the entire breakdown and reinstall...
After reading this , I assume you guys are using the bose amp to power the stock speakers correct ?
I have a issue with my vette and was hoping to find a solution here since i'm using the os2bose also. I'm running a whole new system and non-stock speakers and amps.
Does anyone know how much amperage the os2bose can pass through it's wiring ? I hear my Kenwood dnx9960 can pull 10 amps.
Hawk, that is correct for me: Head unit swap only. Given that you're replacing everything, I think you want the OS-2 instead of the OS-2BOSE. Hopefully somebody that knows will comment.
Well it’s been a month now and the GMOS-100i is working well. All functions works great with onstar and the Bose amp and speakers. The only thing they can’t figure out is when you turn the car off and open the door the radio stays on for 10 to 30 seconds. Their trying to find out what it is monitoring for shut down. Maybe lights or the alarm but overall I am very happy! The 9960 is a great system!
