Default Just Checking... Replacing entire system. Anything else needed?

I'm going to replace the stock Bose system in my c5 vert with a new JVC head unit and some infinity speakers.
From what I read I'll need to run a new turn on wire from the fuse panel in the passenger floor area.
Besides that, a mounting kit, and a wiring harness(?), antenna adapter, do I need anything else?
I'll be running new speaker wire from the HU to the new speakers until I add an amp for them at a later date.

And out of curiosity, can just the front speakers be hooked up? Any idea if it would hurt the HU to not connect rear ones?

Thanks!

Without addressing the lack of adequate sound deadening, the new system will not sound so hot if your car is moving. Especially with the top down, 1'st order of business is to disconnect the antenna so it doesn't whistle, then tear out everything and install some second skin or dynamat. Just my 2c but even the best audio system can be drowned out by road noises.

I second that and not because I am RAAMmat man

Deadening is a cornerstone for a good audio system as well as proper electrical supply.

I have the best deadening for the money you can get, especially at the lowest price I sell anywhere, here, for my fellow enthusiasts

The company that owns Infinity, JBL, and many others world wide has been using my BXT II exclusively for some time now and love it, they came to me after many many years using DE

Basic package, doors, behind rear seats, rear of car very well done, which these cars very much need.

RAAMmat BXT II, 37.5 sq ft 89.00
3 yards PS Ensolite 44.88

I also offer Alumalite speaker baffles, ultra low weight, much better than MDF, as well as door filler plates for the huge access holes it the doors. And, real world experience on Vettes and tens of thousands of other cars and trucks around the world from feedback I get, knowing some of the top all time installers, working with them, being a prior competitor and judge, etc.......

I have a C6 convertible and the last guy I gave a ride to was amazed that it was quieter at 70 MPH, top down, than the last coupe he rode in with the top on(not deadened of course)

I will also be offering, taking names now, our low weight IDQ10V3 sub enclosure, the sub, and have many ID speakers in stock as well as great little amps that fit in the stock Bose amp location.

If I can help let me know, if you chose to go elsewhere that is totally fine but do realize it will be very hard to match what I can do, if possible

Have a great day!
Rick

I just finished up the stereo replacement on my 09 C6Z. I replaced everything. As others have mentioned, you should start by dampening as much if not all of the car that you can. Not only will it help to eliminate the road noise and some drone, but it will also help insure that your sound system sounds as good as it can. I went with the rammat and ensolite from Rick at Raamaudio. It was a pretty simple process and the car is so much quieter as a result and the sound system is much tighter as well.

As for just cutting the speaker wires and hooking into them. I think you will be dissapointed. The stock speakers are junk. Again, I went with speakers supplied by Rick. In my case, he had some of the best prices on Image Dynamics speakers and his support and knowledge was second to none.

I documented my build here on this forum. In there is also my parts list. My system was a no nav, non bose system.

Here is a link to my build thread.

I'd suggest you check to see if your new speakers will fit in the stock door speaker locations. I spent quite a bit of time with a dremmel and some 1/2" MDF, and even more time trying to get the mounting screw holes lined up correctly.

It took some time and was a bit of a pain in the ****, since it was my first time doing it in the Vette, but I am pretty pleased with the upgraded sound. I love the JVC (mine's double-din for DVD's and the power is great.) You can get the new turn-on wire from a wire under the ignition; check the FYI thread for details.

By the way, as long as you have the door skins off, you may as well sound deaden the doors too.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the responses.

I've already made up an adapter plate with the help of some wood working friends at work. Was just wondering if there was anything else wiring wise I needed to be aware of.

I'm not keeping any of the stock system, everything is being replaced, so no worries about interfacing with the bose system.

I finished mine last weekend. I covered every surface with Fatmat. Inside the door as well as under the door panel. I also covered the inside of the rear speaker holes. I covered everything I could put my hands on. Makes a big difference. I ran my own speaker wires. I have all Alpine and even mounted the 45 watt in line amp in the dash as well as the bluetooth adapter. For once, I didn't build more than I need. I drilled no holes or cut any connectors. I could put it all back to stock in under an hour! The sound is outstanding. Very happy with it.
