Hey there Corvette forum members! Well as the titles say's I need help with my Double din mod. I ran into some problems while trying to do a Double Din mod.....the good thing i have an extra radio bezel.
I removed the radio
I trim the area of the radio benzel, so it can fit but it was hits the top of the AC. It goes in but by forcing it in.
My Double Din is detachable but i have no problem when the screen is off. When i try to put it on it dosent fit because of the tight space.
So friends! Amigos! help a member out... I did a lot of research before i started; it even seem easy but wasent. I want to keep my Ashtray. SO can some one please me out... O yeah an the screen sticks out alot passing the AC controls...

Assuming that the radio support bracket is already removed, you may have to lower the HVAC unit ever so slightly. This can be done fairly easily by cutting off the mounting pins in the back and elongating the mounting holes in the HVAC mounting ears. This should provide you the clearance you need.
Well i havent even moved the braket slightly down.... but good idea. I thought removing or loweing the braket was to modified eveything even the AC control and eliminate the Ashtray. I do want to keep my ash-tray.. Does anyone have a right up but with Ash tray? Almost every post people eliminated the Ash-tray!

Exactly. Right angle drill adapter from Home Depot: $19. Drill out the four rivets that hold the support bracket in place and remove it entirely. The DD will sit right on top of the HVAC. And it should look something like this when you're done:
This was my temporarily solution while waiting for my modded bezel from Double D Mods (C5 Bears Fan) to arrive. As you can see, I kept the ash tray. To fill in the gaps on the sides, I simply spray painted blue painter's tape flat black and adhered it to the outermost side edges of the HU before re-installing the bezel. From a few feet away, it looked great.
To get the HU to fit back farther, I bent up the plastic clip in the back of the opening that seems to serve no purpose. Some people cut it off, but I found that bending it up and out of the way worked just fine.
Not bad for a DIY cut bezel.
But the finished product with a properly modded bezel looks just a wee bit better...
ok i got the double din almost install... now i have gaps on the side ... what will be the best recomendation to fill the gaps on the side ???? I read on other threads which they have used PVC,bondo, etc......

My best recommendation to fill the gaps on the side is to send it to a pro for finishing. Other than that and the black painted painters tape trick that I used temporarily (as shown above), I have nothing more I can suggest. Some use bondo, some use fiberglass resin, some use PVC melted with acetone. Then there's the shaping, sanding, texture application and painting. It's ...involved.
