Default RAAMmat vs Stinger Roadkill

OK, I'm looking for some opinions, preferrably from those that have used both, on the pros and cons of RAAMmat BTX versus Stinger Roadkill Expert for sound dampening and heat shielding in the cokpit of a C4 Coupe. Thanks All!

I don't see the reviews on there anymore. just a sales site.

After looking at both products, I'd still be inclined to go with Raamat. Even if all else is equal, Raamaudio is a supporting vendor, is active in our audio community, and has great customer service.

Rick has been great to work with as I have navigated the audio upgrade in my C6. Everything from amps, to speakers to sound deadening - I've purchased it all from Rick. He knows his products and his customer service is second to none.

That's Don's site, as an alternative to large mats of insulation. His products are SDS tiles which save you money on your insulation since you don't have to cover every square inch of your door panel and still get the same results as if you did do that with a different product like edead, dynamat...etc. He's well respected in the car audio community. All you have to do is run over to caraudio.com and do a search on "SDS tiles" or "sounddeadenershowdown"

Thumbs up for RAAMmat here too. Covered the inside of a Camaro a couple years ago. Easy to work with, customer service was very good. Too bad the showdown site is not working, as I recall RAAMmat did pretty well.

I know the guy, we used to chat on DIYMA now and then. I just haven't talked to him for a bit and was a little surprised to see it's a storefront rather than a review site now.

the 25% rule applies to all butyl/foil products like Dynamat, Ramaat, Secondskin...

Edead is just... special

So if the 25 pct rule is sufficient for knocking down the resonance, what do you do about a barrier for the heat?

Personally, I'd use a product designed to block heat. Reflectix for example.

I couldn't even get the stuff to sitck to itself, let alone my car.

But what is a hair's width of low quality butyl with mylar backing going to do anyway?

I very much appreciated the backing here but I do have to say I have a different view point on what is optimal for proper deadening.

Stiffening the panels is critical, just as much as the mass loading, that is why I recommend center of resonate areas, 50-60% coverage and offer a price point/value product designed for that use.

I could of had smaller, thicker, whatever tiles before most all my competitors were in business, well before, if I thought that was the way to go.

--------

I do agree completely, mat products are not heat barriers, sure they do help a bit in the right areas, correctly installed, etc...but in general not that effective.

And they are reflective acoustically on the aluminum side.

Ensolite was developed by NASA for the space program as a thermal and acoustical barrier, I have been using it and found nothing else even close, for many many years, again well before most of my competitors were in business, some maybe even old enough to be in business

I just never tried to sell a ton of different things, snake oil, marginally effective high profit items, etc.....keep it simple and real, that is the only way I chose to do things.

I am glad you guys are telling the truth about some companies we encounter, one in particular sad company, I just do not get how they can do what they do, I personally know of some pretty terribly things they have done to some very good companies

Rick

I use Second Skin (Damplifer) and have only had great results.

Great customer service also.

I'll chime in with a thumbs up for Rick @ RAAMaudio and his RAAMat. He is great with customer service and offers a ton of tips for installs. I used his stuff on my '09 Z06 and it is super quite. In fact I happened to be at a local audio shop for some fiberglass work and the guys remarked that my vette was the quietest vette they had even been in. His solution for the doors is amazing, the doors close with a solid thud.

don't even get me started on Ant, he's a worthless pos. he's been known to send virus's to people whom differ on his views. he's well hated on the car audio fourms, or at least ones he doesnt already own.

Alumalite speaker baffles, door filler plates, super low in weight, stiffen up the doors, mat not needed on them, reduce road noise, etc.......

Aluminum channels stuck to the door skin to stiffen them so less mat is needed.

BXT II RAAMmat strategically placed to get the deadening needed but use the least as possible.

Ensolite foam, a patch behind the speakers to break up the back wave and all over the rest of door per the HOW TO guide on RAAMaudio.com

http://www.raamaudio.com/index.php?o...&id=3&Itemid=4

Results, greatly reduced road noise, greatly enhanced sound quality, solid door feel when shutting them, minimal weight gain(we have to live with some on these cars to make it right but worth it

I also sell neo magnet midbasses with great output but low weight

These are super cars and my idea of an audio upgrade requires controlling weight as much as possible yet still have a killer audio system.

PM, call, etc if interested

Cool! Whats pricing like for the door kit? I eventually plan on doing the whole car but will be replacing speakers for now and figure while I have the doors apart I should just do this.

Thanks again,

Dave
