Adding bass to a C5 vert - questions
I've got a Pioneer Z110BT installed in my vert. I'm using the PAC ROEM-VET1 and have aftermarket door and rear speakers that replaced the Bose twiddlers, but I've still got the Bose bass speakers in the doors, which I've never had a problem with.
I'm just looking to add some nice, tight bass, not the boomy splashly, sloppy stuff that's heard 100 yards away. I was wondering if any of the combo amp/sub boxes that are being sold now like the JL PowerWedge MAX, the Rockford-Fosgate Punch Overload or the Sound Ordinance B-8PT will give me what I'm looking for with a minimum of fuss. Thoughts?
the jl stealth box sounds really nice, probably anything small that will fit in the center compartment and still be able to get the cover on would work as long as you have a quality speaker in it. the key will be setting the gain and tweaking the eq settings on the head unit. I have 1 jl 10w6 in my vert with a 500/1 amp on it with everything set to not be too boomy and it sounds great. also have a similar setup in my crew cab silverado except with a probox with 1 10 and it also sounds amazing for just 1 10.
I listen to all types of mysic from jazz to metal, from hip hop to techno.

I guess I'm trying to determine whether any of the integrated sub boxes are any good for my purpose. The ones with built-in amps. Just looking for a quick and dirty solution. Connect the power, plug in the sub out from the HU and go...
Image Dynamics IDQV3 10 or 12" with a true 500 watts or more will thump your car, rattle the mirrors off your walls and the house next door and can be heard several streets away. The IDQV3 is designed for small .7-1cu. in enclosures. My opinion of course but nothing else sounds as good and loud in small enclosures. Even the 10" makes serious thumps. The sub is actually an SQ sub so at normal levels it will sound phenominal and produce low notes very cleanly. It's not a boomy sub.
One thing however, my 10" at 1 ohm with the Rockford Fosgate 500watt sub amp vibrates the vert window terribly with the top down that the rear view mirror will not stay pointed.

Okay, but see, that's NOT what I want. I don't want that boomy bass that rattles the windows in the office complex down the street. Just some nice, tight, musical bass that's modest but tight.

Dennis, call me when you're ready to ship. We'll do business.
just wow, my post was deleted because I suggested two companies that the original poster might look into for some quality equipment? can you say censorship?
...and kenwood? are you kidding me?

the JL is probably ok, but anytime I see a JL prefab box, it know they guy paid too much. Id recommend looking into a better/cheaper sub, and have someone make you a box....same story with amps....heck ive got an Eclipse XA1000 (500wrms) and an Eclipse SW7200 12" Sub (500wrms) that i will sell you relatively cheap.

Actually no I am not kidding. I can get him JL as well and would recommend the new XR Series Excelon amps over the high priced JL amps anyday. These are better than the PDX amps everyone likes as well.
and for the box
if you really have to have a JL sub you can order the sub boxes I have that are professionaly built by Atrend exculsivly for DD Mods for 95.00 and add a JL 10w3 for 180.00 and save around 200-250.00

I've already got a 400w or 500w JL amp from a previous installation that I'm going to use, so I'm really not looking to buy an amp. Just a well-built box and a decent sub to throw in there that produces clean, tight bass. I HATE boomy, sloppy, "loose" bass.

Suggest one that would be ideal for my purposes that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg. I mean, I've got this e4300 just literally sitting around... Maybe I can run the rear speakers off of it, too or something...
if anything I would run the fronts off of it and a sub. You could get an entry level amp for around 150 dollars prly. What is your goal here just to add some low end
What I would do is, 10" stealth box with sub. Use your JL amp and rip all the bose out of the doors and put some 6.5 components or coaxials up front and really wake the system up

Yeah, I know that's what I SHOULD do. But I've always sort of liked the Bose subs in the doors. All I'm really trying to do is add better bass to take some of the load off the door subs and get some nice bass extension beyond what the door subs are capable of. The last time I pulled the door panels a lot of the clips broke even though I thought I was being very careful and I had to liquid weld glue them back on, so I'm really wary about pulling them off again. Plus, I really don't feel like messing with all the wiring, etc. I know, I know. I'm lazy.

Why anywone would buy overpriced, low quality stuff like JL is beyond me. Kenwood is even worse. Why people don't use zenon based motherboard stuff is beyond me also. The dollar per watt and the build quality sells itself.
