I have two 8's and an amp in a box and want to build them into the rear deck storage area. Can I just take em out of the box and use all the existing wiring or do I need to add anything????
The storage area only fits one 8" in the passenger side compartment. The driver's side is filled with the abs components. You will need to seal it in there I would replace the lid with an MDF lid that is sealed and then lay the carpet on top of that and then put the speaker though the carpet and the MDF. The amp can't go in the opening as it won't breath and it will overheat. You'll need to mount it somewhere else like behind or under a seat, against the rear wall or somewhere else. You should run good RCAs to the amp from the deck and use 8 gauge wire for power and ground, 12 gauge from the amp to the sub. Hope this helps.
it helps a ton, thanks for the info.....I really ewant to use both subs cause I have a small amp. maybe if I get a bigger amp I can get by with one 8??
Get a single channel amp that matches the power rating of the sub ohm wise and watt wise. You may be able to do this through bridging. It all depends on the sub you have.
If you have say a 1" thick baffle and reasonable depth on that 8" sub, you should be able to mount it above the ABS stuff in the drivers' storage compartment. There's a good 4" or so, and the ABS doesn't take up much of the total air volume. Actually the compartments are ~1 cu ft each which is big for an 8" anyway. Just make sure the whole thing is removable to service the ABS.
Another alternative is a single 10" or 12" in the pass side. I used that space above the ABS to mount my amp. Here's mine with a single JL Audio 10w0...
