Default Reverse gear wire help

I am installing a new Double Din Nav radio in my C5 and also a backup camera. All is going well, except the radio has a purple/white wire called the Reverse Gear Cord and it supposed to be connected to the reverse indicator light. My C5 is a six speed and doesn't have a reverse indicator light. Nor do I see any wires under the console that hook to the shifter. Obviously there is a wire somewhere underneath the car, because the back up lights come on when the car is put into reverse. Any idea where I can hook this wire up?

Thanks,

Phil

I picked up the wire right off the reverse light it self. You have to run the camera wire from the back for the car so just splice a 16 or18 ga wire into one of the wires going to the bulb and run it right with your video feed to your radio. The Violet / white wire isjust looking for a power signal to tell the radio to turn on the camera.

Hi Toolmandbq,

That's what I thought I'd have to do, but I just put it all back together in the rear. Oh well. I am assuming I connect to the green wire at the bulb, right?

Thanks,

Phil

I am going by the set up from my Pioneer 4200 DVD unit. The green wire on a pioneer is to be connected to the E-brake switch. This is so you are not watching video while driving down the road. Your back up camera will probably not work until that violet/white wire is wired upto the bulb wire. I can tell you I got pretty good at removing the radio bezel while installing my unit, but the final product is well worth it. Good luck

Yes, green wire at the bulb.

I'm sure you are right. I'll run another wire to the back of the car tomorrow. My radio is a Clarion and it also has the green wire for the parking brake. The green wire I was referring to is the green wire at the backup light bulb. On my car there is a green wire and a black wire going into the backup light socket. I am going to attach the green parking brake wire to the black radio ground wire, so the Nav can be programmed by the passenger while in motion. Haven't put the dash together yet, thankfully.
Thanks,

Phil

OK, I'm an idiot. I can't seem to get the camera to come on when the car is put into reverse, however the camera works fine when selected from the menu. There are only three wires here, a red "hot' wire and a black 'Ground" wire from the camera and a purple/white wire from the radio. The red and black wires are connected to the left tail lite to power the camera. The purple/white "trigger" wire is connected to the right tail light. Obviously the trigger is not working. What am I doing wrong?

Check head unit setup menu and see if you have to set unit to display camera automatically when reverse is selected. It may be turned off by default.
