Default Alpine CD player install....newby!!

Ok heres my issue in a nutshell.

78 c3.
removed a 80's era Alpine tape player. Ony the front pass side dash speaker worked.

Swapped a already cut center guage bezel and all the guages (all still work after the sawp too whoo hooooo!!).

NEW Clarion 4x6's and wiring in the dash.
Made the power, ground and speaker connections from the existing (original?, dont know) sterio plug to my new Apline CD palyer. All fused and ready to go, so I thought.
Went to power it up....NOTHING.......then realized I needed to push a reset button under the faceplate. Powered up just fine. Wouldnt play a CD...then realized it was sitting vertically on the floor and not horizontal. Changed positions and it played the CD.....set on low volume..only the pass side speaker.....for 5 seconds, the speaker clicked then no more sound. Once you shut the car off and restarted the CD player, same thing happened. If you shut the CD player off and back on, it did the same thing.

Havenet wired up the rears speakers yet. Likely over the winter.

SO sterio GURUS, what gives?
Where do I start?
