Radio Shack sells a 13.5" inch "stubby" antenna for your C5, and it is a simple screw-on replacement for the stock 30.5" long fixed antenna. Their part number is 12-2267, and the best part is the price: $4.99
Not to mention your reception will suffer dramatically. Ever wonder why most cars are equiped with 31" mast antennas? Because this is the length that gives you the maximum ability to pick up FM radio waves. The short rubber stubby antenna is for people who live in the city and have vandals constantly ripping their antenna off their car. Kinda like all those guys with the double bladed colored wiper blades. They don't help getting water off the window at all. Also, ever notice that all blades are black on all cars stock? This is because Porsche did a study 50 years ago and determined black was the least distracting color for a wiper to be allowing you to concentrate on looking out the window and not being mesmorized by a pretty shiny candy like wiper. Rubber antenna? Give it to a man in a trailer home.
So Sorry to have even wasted my time posting this! The only replies I get are to criticize! My only intention was to try and help fellow members who want a shorty antenna save money. I've seen these shorty antennas on the internet at prices over $20....No problem for me....This is the last time I will post ANYTHING to save you money.
Well, maybe the trailer home was a little over the top. Trade it with a honda guy for some PIAA foglights. (Or beat him over the head with it after you crush him in a race)
Zippy...... Thanks, I appreciate the info. It gives me another choice for my Camaro SS. SLP sells a Stainless Steel antenna shorty for about $20. :smash: I don't need the one for the Corvette Coupe though.

Sorry. Sniff Sniff. Can Zippy still come out and play?
Hey, I'm from NY. Need I say more? ;)
Normally though I don't rag on people. But we had to deal with the rubber antenna thing week after week with people replacing their antennas and then coming in saying their radio reception stunk and it must be our installation.( I was an installer for almost 4 years) :mad I'd just stay away from the rubber antennas or the windshield mounted ones like the plague. If you want, put a power antenna in. That way you have the best of both. If you're really good, you can mount a 31" antenna behind the fiberglass and make it invisible.
Since I live near Detroit, I have no trouble with reception using the stubby, plus I can always put the factory fixed antenna back on. I have a Z06 and they only come with the fixed height antenna.
Have a good one!
Hey, wanta save some money on a Rolex watch? JK! :)
After reading a few posts about "making" your own short antenna, I did just that! I went to Fleet Farm and bought a black steel whip antenna that looks identical to my stock antenna. (I would imagine that most auto parts stores like Pep Boys would also sell it.) I used a pair of pliers to knock off the ball on the tip, then used a hacksaw to cut it down to size and then remounted the ball on the end. I use some flat black paint to touch it up. I still have my old antenna in case I want to return to the stock look. The short antenna looks great though. Took my approx. 10 minutes to make this custom antenna.
Total cost: $5 (Already had the paint.)
Here's how it looks:
No problems with radio reception. I mostly listen to CD's anyway... or my favorite song: The Z06 exhaust note. :D )

THAT'S exactly what I did too after reading about it on the forum and yes I get great reception also. Got my "donor" antenna from a beater truck at work since it's radio is broke and no one would miss it. So my total cost was 10 minutes of my time and no dollars.
