Default 1996 - which wire to use...

I know this has been posted alot, I have read the FAQ and the posts, and cant seem to get the right wire.

I used a receiver bypass wiring harness when I decided to replace the bose system completely. everything is playing nice, except I cant figure out which wire to use to connect to the illum wire on my head unit to get the dimmer to work on the deck.

Do I connect it to one of the wires that was behind the original unit in the dash, or one of the wires in the larger harness that is in the passenger foot area?

This is essentially just a 'bump' since I can't give you a definitive answer, but I would expect the dimmer wire to be in the dash, not the passenger foot area. That's how it is for C5's.

Something else to consider....

Some of the newer HU's don't use a 'true' dimmer signal (varied 5v iirc), they need a +12v signal when the exterior lights are on. Verify which signal your new HU needs before you tear the car apart for nothing.
