got a 90 vette with the bose system...i wanna take it out and put a kenwood hu in it......does anyone know what harness i need and besides bypassing the bose speakers is there anything else i need to worry about before hooking it up...Thanks
Re: Need wire harness for Bose...Help please (ScoobyD)
Based on my experience, interfacing an aftermarket head unit with the '90+ Bose speaker/amp units doesn't work very well. I had a shop try to put a Sony deck into mine once. They used some sort of Bose interface unit but the system ended up with an electronic hum coming through the speakers that varied with RPM (not alternator whine though, because it would do it even with the engine not running).
But, maybe they just did something wrong. Hopefully someone else will chime in with a more positive experience.

If you want to use the bose speakers and amps, you need to get a converter. They run about $80 and convert the powered speaker outputs to the proper ratings to work with the rest of the system.
If you plan on replacing the deck and speakers, and not using anything bose, you will just need a harness to get power for the radio from the stock harness. They run about $10 and can be found anywhere. You will get power, ignition, ground, power antenna, and light hookups from this harness.

I would recommend going the second route.
I agree with 92TripleBlack. You will need an “OEM” converter to use the Bose speakers with an aftermarket HU and it is NOT worth it. Going with all aftermarket HU and speakers is the best rout. You be glad you did. :)

i ended up using the connector included with my new head unit, and splicing power from the receiver, NOT the head unit (BIGGER wires!!! more POWER!!!).
just make sure you, uh, remove battery power when you do this. i forgot (zap!). it only cost me a fuse, but boy did it make me feel stupid.
