Today I had my Kenwood DNX6960 installed. It was purchased from a forum vendor - Dennis at Doubel D Mods (Thanks for a great price and great service, Dennis) and it was professionally installed by Dave at Madvette Motorsports, a forum vendor (and thanks to Dave for a real professinal looking installation at a great price - looks and sounds great). Dave also installed his complete sound deadening/insullation kit. However we were unable to solve an issue with the PAC OS-2 Interface Module.
First, the car is an '08 coupe without Bose and with Onstar. Along with the 6960, a GM antenna adapter, a Audiovox XM minituner and Kenwood XM tuner interface were installed, and a Boyo back-up camera. Everything works fine and the sound is great through the factory non-Bose amp and speakers.
The issue is that when OnStar is activated while the audio is playing (in any mode), a very loud pop eminates from the front speakers and the Kenwood shuts down. Once the OnStar conversation is concluded, the radio powers up and resumes normal operations. According to the instructions provided by PAC for the OS-2, in the first pargaraph on the first page it states "The OS-2 has an onboard switching, and amplification to allow audio from the OnStar system to play thorugh the two front factory speakers when OnStar is active, and mute the new replacement radio."
Anybody else have this problem, and if so, were you able to solve it? And obviously, if you did solve it, how did you do it?
wiring can be changed so it mutes the radio instead of turning it off, this could cure ur pop issue
Thanks for the reply. Dennis (C5 BearsFan) got back to me today and said that he was pretty sure that the brown mute wire did not get connected from the OS-2 to the 6960. Once he said that I remembered seeing that wire with the tag in the harness - he had even tagged it "Mute" and we still missed it (just tired I guess). Dave is going to pull it out and hook it up Monday. I'm sure that will solve the problem. Dennis also just sent me the new Metra smooth dash kit (which is a perfect match) so it would have been apart again anyway to install that. It's a great unit - I'm really happy with it. Dennis hooked me up with some great equipment at a great price and Dave at Madvettes did a great job installing his insullation kit and the audio equipment for me. I really appreciate all here on this forum. We've really got a great fraternity.
