Well, I’ve finally decided to upgrade from my Bose Premium system in my Corvette in order to have a few modern conveniences such as NAV, SAT radio, and of course; to be able to control my ipod Touch while driving. It was a hard decision because the Bose system does a remarkable job of masking over the Corvettes road noise especially with the top off on the freeway at 75MPH. This is the best part of the Bose. I have ridden a few corvettes with high end systems and this is still a major problem, Adding too much weight to the Corvette to mask over road noise is not a good alternative and frankly not worth the effort or expense. So I decided to carefully choose the right speaker components, amplification, and processors to give me a very good front staging format. A 3-way front staging is the best way to go in my Corvette with rear fill and subwoofers. I haven’t decided on either HAT or Dynaudio but a decision will be made soon.
And yes, I could do the system with a lot less, but I had a hard time trying to sell my 4CH Memphis so I’m going to use it. A false floor will be made to house the processors and the amps with one amp mounted against the rear wall. I keep my extra top and baggage in the rear when we travel out of town on Corvette weekends.
Since you seem to be going all out, have you completely ruled out soundproofing? Rick @ RAAMaudio sells his 1 box & 3 yards kit for well under $200 shipped. I was a bit skeptical at first, but I became a believer on my first drive after installing it. It really does seem like a whole new car.
Not totally. I just will have to be specific on the materials i choose. Most of the items that’s sold is for vibration dampening not so much sound proofing. The Corvette isn't so much a rattle bucket as most other cars are but they do suffer from a lot of noise. My friend’s C6 is a good example. No rattle bugs, but once you mash the throttle...OHHHH BOY...and his car has about 50lbs of deadening. You still hear the tire noise and exhaust noise. Hurray…Bose is good for something… I found this site on the net.
