After the right hand drive conversion was done here in Australia, I have a back ground whistle noise through the stereo and its also there when playing CD's. After looking under the hood, we traced it back to the alternator.Alternator was dismantled, test run on the bench, reinstalled, noise still there. Auto electrician said that these type of alternators have an air gap, between armature and casing? If its too big, the noise could be from this excessive air gap. I am inclined to think its more of an earthing problem, or 2 power leads are crossed over somewhere, generating feed back throught the speakers. Any one else had a similar issue, regarding this whining noise?
I didnt have the car prior to the conversion being done to check if the noise was already evident, as it had to go straight to the conversion place once released from Customs.
Basically, a few more notches on the volume button, or a speed above 40 mile/hour you dont notice it, but I know its there.
