I listen mostly to hard rock . I like crystal clear highs and realistic bass and treble . sound .
I have pdx f6 and m6 amps , alpines new x 10 sub .
Also getting next week the Kenwood dnx 9980
I'd go with Focals then, (NOT the access 210s) given your tastes. Look at 6.5 polyglas. I like the sets with the tn52 tweeters best, but they may be a bit out of budget if you don't buy grey-market (which has a lot of counterfeits floating around right now.)
DLS are pretty decent speakers, from what I've heard. I'd put them far above CDT, but a bit below Dynaudio (For smooth sounding speakers)
But of a different sound than Focal. Focal tends to be brighter and clearer sounding (read: less warm sounding) than the above.
Try try to put it in perspective,
An electric guitar's distortion will ***** your ears with every last bit of fuzz and detail on the Focals.
On speakers like the DLS (Or dyns) you get a smoother, softer sounding distortion. Some say less detailed, some say easier to listen to. More of a silky texture than straight up needle-sharp accuracy.
Haven't heard the ones mentioned above, but I'd consider both the aluminum cone and the midrange size a couple instant strikes against it.
The other thing is - if that 8 is supposed to play up to 4500hz to the crossover point (a very, very lofty goal for a speaker that size) then it's given up low range reproduction which is really the whole point of an 8" speaker.
It looks to me like a speaker designed by a marketing department - but that's just my quick glance look.
I can't find any charts or straight up specs on the above speaker except mounting depth.
Try to listen in some audio shops and see what you like. Pick music you're very, very familiar with to test.
Give JL C5-650's a listen, I have them in mine and love em. Handle good power, nice sounding midrange and really smooth silk tweeters that arent harsh at all like so many others.
Hmm I just realized you have PDX amps after looking over the thread. You might want to pass on the Focals, they tend to be a bit revealing of the PDX sound.
Pioneer has a killer 6.5 2 way out too... its about $299 iirc.
How do you listen to your music also. Sitting in your garage showing your friends how much you spent on a quality system or cruising down the road. Once you start the car up and drive, there goes most of the high end quality anyways. Me, I prefer Infinity Kappa's but not the Kappa Perfects.
