Yes, as a new 04 owner i want to up the sound output on my car. [old ride blew this stock one away] - low on cash so i would like to know the easiest way as im not up on the electronics setup of the stock bose in my 04.- Can i just add diff speakers in front to work with the factory head unit, and amp ? and a good aftermarket rear speaker ? should this help some and work ??-- As i said im not sure how its wired or works for the front speakers - i guess they have a amp to power them ?
In a stock C5 the door subs are the only speakers with their own internal amps, the rest are powered directly from the radio.
You could get a much louder and decent sounding system if you added a sub in the rear center tub and components in the doors. Rear speakers are up to you, many prefer the way it sounds without them, and you could save some cash.
DIY sub box plans are HERE, and you can easily mount an amp on the rear trunk wall. If you like having rear speakers get a 5-channel, without rears you can use a 4-channel with 1&2 for the fronts and 3&4 bridged to the sub.
Curious if there are better quality rear speakers that can be replaced in the back, utilizing all existing unit, etc that will add some value?
If you mean in a C5, I just replaced mine in my Z06 with 5.25" Infinity Reference 5032CF. Theres definitely more color and vocal life behind my ears now than with the factory bose, if that helps you. If you have a C5 coupe then you need some 6.5" speakers.

I've got an '04 coupe as well. I added JL Audio C5-650s and an amp and it's a night/day difference without breaking the bank. I don't think the amp is REQUIRED, but it sure helps, particularly if you're replacing the self-powered fronts.
Well I just upgraded my door speakers in my 2004 Z06 and what a difference it makes. I also added a four channel amp to assist. The speakers I went with were recommended by the shop owner (C5 owner too) and they are from the former MB Quart company, called German Maestro. I had installed the 8" 2 way speakers model ES8009. These things are AWESOME. It sounds better and has as much bass as my old 1998 with a JL subwoofer installed. They fit in with no modifications needed to the door area. Good Luck and let us know what you decide upon.
