Default [C6] Quick question on replacing Radio

Hi guys,

My audio system knowledge stinks... hopefully this is an easy question for some of you.

I have a 2006 Z06 with the "Bose Premium Sound" Option. My head unit is the in-dash 6-disc changer, and I do NOT have the nav option. Also, I do not have Onstar. There are no steering wheel controls. Everything about my sound system is 100% stock, except for the addition of a Peripheral iPod adapter purchased from DD Mods.

I want to replace the head unit with something like the Pioneer 3300BT. If I do this:

Do I need to buy a new harness or will the existing one work?

Will it work with the stock speakers already in the car?

Is the install pretty simple, or does it involve splicing wires / running wires to the back / etc? If it's a straight replacement or just adding a harness, I can do that just fine.

Specific to the Pioneer 3300BT, I see that it's Bluetooth enabled. I have an iPhone 3GS. Does this mean I can potentially send my music on my phone to the radio via bluetooth? And for hands-free calling, do I need to buy a dock for my phone, or is that done wirelessly?

Thanks for any help!

No onstar makes it easy.

Your current ipod adapter can't be used with an aftermarket radio, keep it in a box or sell it on ebay.

The interface you need is the C2R-GM24 (formerly GMCO).

Yes.

Mostly plug-n-play.

You'll have to connect some wires from new radio to interface, and any dimmer/rear camera/VSS wires will have to be spliced in other places, but they're all easy to get to.

Yes for music question, but it does depend on compatability between phone and radio, iphones work fine with most any radio via BT. However, if you plug the iphone (or an ipod) into an ipod cable connected to rear of radio, then you can use the radio to control music on the iphone/ipod (I have an ipod in the glove box that never leaves my car, my normal place for the iphone is in center console).

For BT phone calls you never have to touch the phone, it's all wireless.

Thank you very much! I think I'll be buying a new radio today, though I'm looking at some different models as well.

If it's not too late, talk to Dennis at DD. He will set you up with everything you need, and pre-wire your new harness for you. You won't be disappointed. I purchased the Pioneer 930BT and couldn't be happier.

Thanks for the replies! I did look at Dennis's site, but the thing is, I had enough rewards points saved up at BB that I got the radio and harness for super cheap, plus it was in-town and no s/h and wait time to worry about. But I have ordered from Dennis before and I will again anytime the opportunity comes up!

I have the unit installed and for the most part it's working GREAT! I don't even need the ground loop isolators I picked up. But, something got borked up with the e-brake wire from the Pioneer unit. I guess it didn't go to the wire on the metra harness that I thought it did. I may have to run that wire all the way to the parking brake switch itself; or else bypass it. So for now I can't see pictures or use most of the bluetooth functionality until I fix it.

The other weird thing... I lost some of the chimes but not others. I get a chime if the doors open while the car is in ACC mode, but I no longer get chimes from the seat memory recall buttons or from switching modes on the DIC.

I bet you have a scosche interface adapter? The GMCO retains all of the chimes, other brands not so much

Go to AVIC411.com and look up the bypass hack thread for the unit you have. In Kenwoods all you have to do is ground the e-brake wire, in Pioneer you have to move wires in the harness.

I don't think my adapter is Scosche; I believe it is Axxess / Metra. It came from BB. They did state that it would retain all my chimes... which it obviously does not, so I'm pretty sure I can return it if there is a better interface out there. I'll look into the GMCO one. Thanks!

That's what I've heard, but what I've also read is that this particular interface will NOT work with the Bose system I have. I have Bose, but no Onstar. The interfaces I've seen come in 3 flavors: Onstar with Bose, Onstar without Bose, and No Onstar No Bose. I haven't seen a "No Onstar with Bose" option.

What are your thoughts on that? The one I have now from Axxess is "onstar with Bose" and I was told that it doesn't matter if I don't have Onstar, this unit would still work. But I sure would like to have ALL my warning chimes back, not just the few I have now.

Dennis, is this what you are suggesting?

http://shop.doubledmods.com/C2R-GM24-c2r-gm24.htm

So this would work with my stock Bose speakers and a Pioneer 3300BT, and retain all my chimes? I don't have Onstar or steering wheel controls or nav or backup cameras to worry about. If this will work, I'll look into getting BB to refund my metra harness and I'll order this one from you.

I'm at a US address, served by USPS so there should be no issues

My zip is 99504 for your reference. I'll let you know! What would s/h be to that zip anyway? I would suppose a small flat rate box would do the trick... that works for all 50 states, even us Alaskans!

Well guys... I finally got all the bugs worked out. my local shop hooked me up with the new GM24 harness and a pioneer cable for a song, and I have all my functionality and door chimes back. I'm really loving this new unit.

One question though... the chime volume from the GM24 chime unit is LOUD!! The instructions were pretty much useless in this regard. Is there a way to turn that down?

Also, an unrelated question... when driving around during the daytime, even if it's overcast... there is a nasty glare on my 3300BT's screen that nearly washes it out. Is there a fix for this, or is it just the nature of the beast?
