If you just wanted better bass, I would first, add the sub. If that isn't good enough, then look at changing out the HU. A single amp, sub, box, and adapter, and you'd be done.

Is that true?? He quoted me $460 for the fosgate......is this really necessary for my set up??
trust me when i tell you and i have posted this before. there are WAY more reasons to replace the factory POS nav radio with aftermarket than there are reasons to keep it.
about the only thing the factory HU has going for it is it interfaces with the HUD
beyond that the kenwood DNX head units walk all over the factory POS in so many ways with so many additional useful features i dont want to take the time to type them all out again.
but getting rid of the factory peice even without all the benefits of the kenwood HU from just a sound perspective its night and day different!

If your not opposed to installing a new radio, then paying for a sound processor is silly. The only real advantage the processor gives over getting a new HU is the fact that the oem radio stays.

If cash is the issue, get a used radio.

Considering you started out 'just wanting a bit more bass', you may want to just get an ADD-GM24 and install a sub, then see how you like it. If you already have the components, throw them in also. It will definitely sound better than the oem amp/speaker setup, but there will be obvious room for improvement. Rear speakers can even be powered from oem setup in this scenario.

If you later decide to upgrade the HU, the amp/speakers you already have installed will easily be plug-n-play.

So basically I can just use the gm24 and install my 2 amps woth a sub and components and im good to go??....so essentially the 3sixty.2 is not necessary but would enhance the sound on the original oem hu??

Correct on both.

Not sure about the gm24 (I think that's the right one), but using the correct adapter you can add the amps and components. The 3sixty.2 isn't necessary, but in addition to enhancing the OEM HU (voltage driving and compensating for frequency rolloff), it will also allow you to tune the speaker output to your specific car/application.

The processor is just for SQ, but if you get a good one it's a big difference. My only comment about that is this... for the same price you can get a new HU that does just as much (if not more) for the SQ, but also adds ipod integration and so much more.

To do your original goal of more thump and louder you do not need an add-on processor.

To get the oem radio signal to an aftermarket amp you have a choice. You can buy one of these and it will be plug-n-play for $46. Or you can buy one of these and modify it like this for about $20 and a few hours work. If you make your own Add-GM24, use the wire at pin B3 as the trigger signal to your new amp.

I have the AudioControl DQXS processor and the quality and control is AMAZING, especially with the remote controls. Also using their Matrix line driver. These were all in my C5 last month (now removed and in boxes) as I am preparing to move them to my newer C6 in the next month or so, after new speakers and HU ...
