Radar in Canada
I am making a trip to Ontario next month (ALMS-Mosport) and was worried about my radar detector. I have an Escort RX75 remote detector. Can it be detected by the authorities even if I don't power it on? If so, can they make me rip it out of the car and confiscate it?

yeah,they'll confiscate it, and give you a fine! If it's not permanently mounted, just put it in your trunk when you pass through our lovely but highly restricted province, otherwise keep it turned off - if they can se it mounted even if it's turned off you're still toast! 
Oh, and watch the speeding here....50 kph (30 mph) over the limit results in a minimum $2,000.00 fine and vehicle impoundment for minimum 7 days, other than that, hammer down and have a ball

So, if I have it turn off, what would be the likelyhood that they would actually look it my grill and see the detector? Do they really do a thorough investigation at the border? I really don't want to take it off and go through all the re-wiring

they don't look for that stuff at the border, not their responsibility....if it's built in then just turn it off so it doesn't signal back at them that you have 1, the only ones' you really have to worry about up here are the units that are dash/windshield mounted - if they can see them they'll grab you... whether they're on or off....you're cool with what you have....enjoy your trip!
