IMO, the best bang-for-your-buck value in speakers right now is the scratch & dent section at CDT. I had the db6501's then replaced them with CL-E61CF for about the same price

If you'd rather stick with new gear, check out the Vibe line that Dennis now sells, have heard nothing but good things about them so far.

You can't fit a sub, but any 'normal' 6.5" driver will easily fit.

Please elaborate on this.... Is there a noticeable difference? Ive seen on many of your posts that you really encourage people to buy these. Are they that good?

when you say normal are you referring to diameter or mounting depth?

I know the Hybrid Audio 6.5" subs has a mount depth of 3.35 inches. not sure if the mounting depth in the door will accomdate that or not but I know my Midbass drivers are just a hair over 3"

The Polk db series is there entry level set, they sound good and there's absolutely noting wrong with them. Paired with a sub in the trunk, they are an incredible difference compared to the oem setup. The MM series costs more than db and does sound better. IMO, the CDT CL line sounds even better than the Polk MM series, and if purchased new they do cost more. Lately, if someone is asking for advice on components, I've been mentioning the fact that you can get slightly used CDT CL speakers for about the same price as new Polk db speakers. As long as you're comfortable with refurbished gear, that makes the decision easy in my book. If you have any reservations, or would just prefer new equipment, then stick with the Polks, you will be happy with them.

I'm referring to mounting depth. There isn't enough depth for an 8" sub, but any 6.5" speaker from a component set has plenty of space before hitting the window.

Diameter isn't an issue either, just cut the hole in your mounting plate bigger if you need to.

So wait, the link you provide are for refurbished speakers? I thought they were just a "dent and scratch" thing, kinda like Corvette Recycling. I wasnt aware they were refurbished. Makes it very easy for me to steer clear from them. Thanks

Think about it as if it was your vette. Would you pay half the price for a salvage "rebuilt" titled vette????

I would give refurbished speakers a try. Chances are they were just returned unused or undamaged for some reason or another and then just repackaged. I bigger ticket item such as a TV (or a Vette) or something that has a lot that could go wrong I would pass on.

I think there's a slightly smaller risk of loss with the speakers.

You are comparing $200-500 speakers with a 50k car... with the speakers i get a warranty and don't have to worry about resale value... and having dealt with that company in the past i would have zero worries about it..

One of my tweeters was making weird noises and they replaced it quickly and without any hassle... that system is 7 years old now and still working perfect...

You can also try woofersetc for CDT speakers. In the On Sale section, they have a ton of em, many at more than 50% off for brand new. Authorized online retailer also.

Haven't tried CDTs yet... Might have to give them a shot next build.
