C5 Bose head unit question

Default C5 Bose head unit question
I read on another post that the head unit on the C5's will play CD's with MP3's on them as long as the head unit was manufactured after 10/2001. It seems the newer units have the decoder chips for the MP3's and other formats in them. Is this true because I never heard this before.

I have 2004 Coupe and I can confirm that the stock Bose H/U will NOT play MP3's. Believe me, I tried!!!!!!!!!
